Ashton spent his childhood as an orphan living on the streets, begging and stealing to survive. At the age of 13, he joined a major underground criminal organization that promised him clothes, food, and a roof over his head and spent the next six years working under them as a spy and assassin. Ashton soon became renowned and feared for his exploits, earning the nickname “The Reaper.” However, he was acutely aware that he never belonged – that he was being used as a tool, and thus even within the gang Ashton suffered from loneliness.

At the age of 19, he was captured and imprisoned. While there, Ashton met an unlikely group of prisoners who told him of their dream of one day joining the Dawnwing Organization. Despite himself, Ashton was drawn in by their kindness and grew closer to them. As such his outlook on the world also changed, and Ashton became filled with regret for his actions. As such, he silently resolved to head to Skyhaven as well so that he could put his past behind him. Despite this, Ashton continued to be relatively solitary, considering the others to be acquaintances at best.

Things came to a head when Orthrus came looking for a Champion. Seeing Ashton's desire to repent for his sins, Orthrus agreed to make a pact with him, and thus Ashton became the strix's Champion, to the others' shock and delight.

After Ashton and his companions were released from prison Orthrus led them to Skyhaven, where Ashton ultimately joined the Dawnwing Organization as one of their Champions and leaders.
