Halm nodded a little. He carefully pulled Cas a little closer. He did his best not to watch these, it felt like he was prying into Cas's life.
Halm nodded a little. He carefully pulled Cas a little closer. He did his best not to watch these, it felt like he was prying into Cas's life.
Cas watched the memories himself, watching his father and mother argue, his younger self get beaten and ignored, himself arguing with his father and eventually leaving, and finally, his father drinking himself to death. He was crying softly by the end of it and was trembling a bit.
Halm eventually was able to pull the vessel away. He wrapped both arms around Cas, pulling him close.
"It's okay," Halm said softly. "He's gone. He went be able to do anything to anyone ever again."
Cas hiccuped and huddled close, fresh tears still rolling down his cheeks. "W-Why did he hate me so much…? What did I do?"
"You didn't do anything," Halm said quietly. He carefully wiped the tears away, being so gentle. "It was all because of him. He was the only one who did wrong."
Cas nodded weakly and clung to Halm as tightly as he could through the thick hoodie. "I don't… I-I don't remember ever meeting my mother… I don't even know if she's alive or not…"
Halm pulled Cas closer.
"I don't know either," Halm said softly. "But I know she wasn't there to protect you. You deserved so much better."
Cas rubbed at his eyes a bit, sniffling. "I-I'm sorry I start crying every time I kinda encounter my dad…"
"It's okay, Cas. I get how hard this has been for you." Halm carefully pulled away to be able to look at Cas's face.
Cas looked up at Halm weakly, his eyes still brimming with tears. He was still a bit shaky and he just looked like a broken little kid. "All I ever wanted was for him to care about me…"
"I know," Halm said gently. He cupped Cas's head gently in his hands. "I know, but he never did. He never did, but you deserved his love, and I'm so sorry he didn't give it to you."
Cas hiccuped and closed his eyes, just going limp so Halm could hold him. A couple fresh tears rolled down his pale cheeks.
Halm carefully wiped the new tears away. He pulled Cas closer, letting him rest against Halm's chest.
"You're gonna be okay here," he said softly.
Cas nodded a bit, exhaling shakily as he huddled close. "Do you have parents?" He asked.
"I…" Halm hesitated a bit before answering. "I have a Mother."
"Really?" Cas glanced up at Halm. "Is… is she nice?" He asked.
"She can be," Halm said. He was glad the subject had changed, but what they were talking about was something to be handled carefully.
"Better than my mother?" He asked, keeping his eyes on Halm to try and read his expression.
(she's a bitch)
Halm hesitated again.
"I suppose," he said. The words seemed forced, but Halm said it anyway.
(big time)
(you haven't even seen her worse yet Icefire)
"Mm… you sure about that?" Cas asked. "You seem… hesitant…"
"I'm sure." These words were said in the same way as the last, though. Halm didn't think it to be wise to say anything else.
"Hmm…" Cas didn't seem convinced, but he didn't want to push it. "How many more memories do you have to take today?"
"Just a few more." Halm was glad Cas didn't push anymore on the subject. "Then, I can show you around if you still want to."
