"Of course." She left the room and closed the door.
Rss and Nonna immediately swarmed over. "There's a cot over here where you can sleep," Riss said, motioning to the corner of the large room. "Are you okay if we sedate your familiar while we stitch up his wounds, and make sure they aren't infected? Otherwise, he'll be in a lot of pain." She looked at the Queen. "It's a he, right?"
Arin nodded a little, sitting on the cot. "It's a he, yes. And…I think it'll be fine if he's sedated. She got up again, walking over to Ryke and murmuring to him quietly.
"If you say so." Riss pulled a needle and some fluid from a chest in the corner. "Would you like to apply it?" She asked Arin. "So that he isn't as nervous?"
Arin took the tool carefully, nodding. "Alright." She approached Ryke. "Where do I put it in?" She asked.
"Right here," Riss said. She pointed to the side of his neck. "Because of his fur, you can't really stick it in a major artery, so you'll have to do it the safest spot near his head."
She nodded, stroking Ryke's fur and murmuring to him, before sinking the needle into the spot Riss had pointed out.
The bear would have fallen asleep soon after.
Riss rubbed her face. "Okay. We need to add some antibiotics, to make sure the wound isn't infected. Would you like to help, or go take a nap?"
Arin shrugged. "Either one. I'd like to help, but if you think I would be more of a hindrance, then I'll sleep." she replied.
"No, you wouldn't, of course not, Your Highness," Riss said quickly. "You've just been up all night."
She laughed a little. "If you think I'd be a hindrance, please be honest. I'd rather not get in the way."
"Well…" Riss hesitated. "You;re probably tired at the moment, and so you'd be not sure what you're doing all the time. But if you really want to help, you can. He is your familiar, after all."
Arin nodded a little bit. "I'll help, but don't give me anything important, I don't want to fuck anything up." she replied. "Deal?"
"Deal." Riss sent her a warm smile that was mostly genuine. "So, the first thing we need to do is disinfect the wounds. Can you pass me that clear jar?"
Arin nodded, and handed Riss the jar after locating it. "Here." she said with a faint smile.
"Thank you." Riss took the jar and opened it, pouring some of the liquid in it onto a rag. "Now, will you hold that to the wound?"
Arin nodded again, doing as Riss said to do. She was quiet, not wanting to inturrupt.
Riss pulled a bottle of water out from somewhere in her clothes and poured some on the wound. She took the cloth from Arin and carefully wiped it. Then she took out a needle and thick thread, and started to sew the flesh together.
Arin bit her lip a little, still working on holding the wound shut. She let out a faint breath.
"Are you okay?" Riss asked, not looking up, keeping her gaze firmly on the task in front of her, eyebrows furrowed in concentration.
Arin nodded a little bit. "Yeah. I'm fine." she replied with a faint little smile.
"Are you sure?" Riss carefully tied the knot of the thread and cut the remaining thread, wiping off the needle and putting it away. She glanced at Arin. "You look tired.''
Arin smiled again. "Yeah, but I want to help with this. Then I'll go to bed." She replied. "I'll be fine, I promise."
"If you say so." Riss carefully took a strand of fabric and wrapped it around the wound. "There. It should be good for now. Now you just stay here and rest, and I'll keep an eye on the wound to make sure it doesn't get infected."
Arin nodded a little bit. "Oh, of course." She replied. "Thank you so much." She smiled at Riss, then headed over to her bed.
"It's my pleasure to help anyone hurt, no matter what they are. I'm a Healer, it's what I do." Riss smiled slightly for the first time since Arin had entered. "I'll wake you if anything happens to it."
