"Is he allowed to be tortured before he's killed? Does he necessarily have to be executed all in one piece?" A man asked. He was rough, covered in scars, and looked ruthless.
"Is he allowed to be tortured before he's killed? Does he necessarily have to be executed all in one piece?" A man asked. He was rough, covered in scars, and looked ruthless.
Arin frowned faintly. "No. His death needs to be a public spectacle, and if he shows up for execution already bloody and beaten, then we will look like the bad guys."
"But he's worse. They should know that he deserves it, and worse," the man argued.
"Even if they know it, it would not reflect back very wel for him to show up to execution beaten and bloodied."
"But he deserves it," the man said, frustrated. "Who cares about how we look? In order to defeat him, we've had to do many horrible things. I don't want this to be a waste of all our time, energy, and power."
"It won't be a waste." She snapped. "Don't you fucking get it? If he shows up for execution bleeding and beaten and hurt, then that makes me look like a bad ruler. It turns him into a martyr for anyone else who would want to undertake his cause, and in a few years, there would be a new rebellion cropping up in his name."
The man scoffed. "Like that's gonna happen. Have you been around your people at all, ever? Because that's not how they work!"
Arin clenched her jaw. "Let's also think of foreign policy." She replied. "If other countries see us beating former leaders before executing them, it could be bad."
"Will you actually be dealing with other countries, though?" The man countered. "That's what ambassadors are for."
"No, but our country's reputation would be affected." She replied, raising an eyebrow a little bit.
(so uh I made Arin with a Picrew: Arin)
(That is beautiful!)
"It's not like it's spectacular right now," the man snapped back. "No one is on the throne, there's practically a civil war, and the current ruler is a bloodthirsty dictator."
(:D thanks! I'ts not exact, but it's pretty close)
"Well yes, but that is different than brutally torturing someone before execution." she argued.
(She's adorable.)
"Is it?" The man sounded frustrated. He glanced at the other members, as if to say can you believe her? Surprisingly, Kade was the one who glared sharply at him.
(thanks!)
"Yes, it is. Frankly, it's a little disquieting that your thirst for revenge has so blinded you to the consequences of your actions." she said, a hint of what she could have been coming through in her voice. A hint of how, with the proper schooling, she could have been an unstoppable queen. Now, with only rudimentary knowledge that didn't even include the ability to read, she was making do with what she was able to do.
"It's not revenge, it's the desire for a better country, and a better ruler! But clearly, we won't get that with someone like you." The man looked pissed.
Kade sighed. "Dal. You kind of are thinking of revenge instead of about the people." He stared flatly at Arin. "I don't like her, but she's better than Jacos, and she's the heir to the throne. So she's what you get."
Arin's mouth twitched faintly, but she didn't speak, merely raised her eyebrows slightly, then looked away.
"You're taking that the wrong way," Kade said, seeing her reaction. He scowled.
She shrugged a little. "I'm the heir. Nothing you can do about that. And i'm not taking it the wrong way, I understand perfectly."
He still looked at her with distrust and annoyance in his eyes, but there was nothing he could to change her mind.
She looked away after a moment, running her hands through her hair. "Anything else?"
After the chief got everyone's attention, after clearing his throat for a while, he motioned to the map of the castle. "I'll be sending Team 1 and Team 3 to the front exit with the Queen," he said. "Kade and Martin, you're leading. Team 8, you're at the back exit, and Teams 5, 6, and 2 can decide which exits they want to guard. Team 7, I need you to watch all of the windows on the bottom floor to make sure no one tries to jump out and escape. Teams 9, 10, and 11 will already be inside, having gone in through the secret tunnels. Any questions so far?"
Arin looked around at the people, but didn't speak. She didn't have any questions, boy really.
Everyone shook their heads. "Alright. We'll move in a few hours, so get some rest."
Arin nodded, standing and moving to leave and go back to where she was sleeping.
