(Loosely based on the "Three Dark Crowns" series by Kendare Blake

In the land of Ilyar, there are three types of magic: Naturalists, Elementalists, and Charmers. Naturalists have animal based magic. Familiars that stay near them. The size and type of familiar varies depending on the strength of the Naturalist gift. Elementalists control the elements. Sometimes just one, sometimes all four. Again, it depends on the strength of the gift. Charmers gifts are controlling inanimate objects. They can command an inanimate object to do anything, even become like a living one. The royal line has traditionally been all of these, one each generation. But fifteen years ago, on the night of the Blue Moon, the royal family was all killed in a coup. They are gone. The country is ruled by a vicious dictator now, who rules through pain and fear.

The magics are suppressed; using them is forbidden. If someone is caught using magic, they are put to death.

The royal family, however, wasn't all killed. One member survives, hidden deep in the forests. Arin Starling is a naturalist, and one of the strongest in a very, very long time. Her familiar? A great brown bear. She, however, has no idea that life in the rest of Ilyar is so bad, as she has lived in nearly complete isolation since she was five. She is twenty, now.

Rumors are starting to filter through Ilyar that the princess is alive. The princess that they all thought lost, thought dead, is in the woods of the north. (Name) has been sent to find her, and bring her back to Jacos Talrun, the dictator. If (name) succeeds in bringing her back, she will either be killed, or forced to wed the dictator who slaughtered the rest of her family.

There's only one small issue. While it was easy to convince Arin to trust them, (name) has begun to fall in love with her. Which of course makes it all the more difficult, when they bring her back to Jacos, and Jacos decides that he will marry her.

I am Arin Starling. I would prefer this to be straight.

Nova sighed and wiped her face, moving from the narrow chair she had been sitting on to the rolling, softer, much more comfortable chair that sat behind her desk. One of her most diffivult patients had just left, and she was exhausted. Her patient, Anna, was clingy and needy, but never actually took Nova's advice, which infuriated the doctor. Just because she was young didn't mean that she wasn't talented!

She rubbed her face. She hated her job. If it didn't pay so well she'd probably quit, but with a degree in psychology, there weren't many jobs out there that would take her, ones that wouldn't make her talk to people. All. The. Time. She'd be better off working for McDonalds' or something.

A knock on the door aroused her from her thoughts, and she looked up, scowling. The others knew that she didn't like to be disturbed at this time… what did they want now. Sighing, she stood, and moved over to the door, sliding it open. It was the new desk lady, M-something. Margeret, maybe? Mary?

"Can I help you?" Nova asked in a bored voice, her tone flat and disinterested. Many of her colleagues had often, in whispers, talked about how irritating it was that she could be one of the best of all of them and still hate people so much. She had heard the whispers, but didn't really care what they thought.

"T-the-" the woman stammered nervously, barely able to look the doctor in the eye.

"Yes?" Her tone was dangerous.

"U-uh-" the woman was stuttering and trembling like a leaf. Nova was very close to throwing her out a window, when she ooitned behind her.

The TV was on to the news, and a man in a tie was talking. "A breakout of this strange disease has just occured downtown. We have word that most of the locals have been infected and the physical forms of the diseases are now present!"

Cursing, Nova grabbed her doctor's coat, the one specifically designed in case something like this ever happened, and started to run outside. Then she stopped, turning to the woman.

"Manda-"

"My name is Martha."

Right.

" - I need you to leave. Go as far as possible from here, or at least stay hidden." She tied her hair up into a ponytail, and turned to leave. "Don't get affected." And she ran out onto the streets.

The template is pretty rough, as i prefer to develop the characters more thru the RP.

Looks: Arin has straight brown hair that is cut very short, a little shorter than her chin in length. It can be a bit fluffy sometimes, and she sometimes ties it back with a strip of leather. Her eyes are a deep blue. She is white, with a light tan and a few pale freckles. Her clothes are rough and homemade. She has a few assorted scars and long, slim fingers that are a bit callused from all her time spent working outdoors.

Looks: My baby has a shock of untidy black hair, which constantly looks like he runs his hands through it, then doesn't comb it. His skin is sun-tanned and almost a gold color. He has high cheekbones and large lips, which actually look good on him. His eyes are a deep, piercing gold color, a little bit like melted honey and sunlight combined. He is strong and lithe, like a fighter, and he has a lot of muscle, and a drool-worthy body. He is tall, about 6'2'', and loves to tower over people. He can look very intimidating, and always uses his looks as a weapon.

Other: Kade hates everyone. Or, at least he says he does. He is really actually the sweetest thing you'll ever meet, if you give him the chance. He likes to put out that scary-guy vibe to make himself seem tough, and only the glimmerings of pain in his eyes can tell you that he's not as strong as he'd like to be. He can be funny, but mostly remains sarcastic and rude, doing his best to push people away and make them hurt, so they'll leave him alone. He doesn't know how real love should be, and so thinks that it doesn't exist. He has a viscious streak as wide as the ocean, so watch out.

Arin was, as usual, deep in the woods. She had North Mountain in view, and used it to help orientate her in the woods. Ryke was beside her, and they were standing in a stream. It was knee-deep for her, and only came a little ways up on the large bears legs. It was midday, and was warm out, so they were trying to cool off. She splashed Ryke with a grin, and the bear splashed her back, using one of its paws to splash the water up. Ryke, though huge and intimidating, would never have hurt her, or anyone she asked the bear not to.

"And bring her back quickly." Jacos's smirk was dark and cold. "Or else you will pay. You're the Golden Hunter, aren't you, boy?" His voice cruel, amused. "You can do it."

Kade kept his head bowed, so that the man couldn't see his eyes, which were flashing an angry gold. "Yes, sir. I will start right away."

Arin laughed as Ryke splashed her back, and she sighed softly, flopping into the water to send a wave against the bear's brown fur. Ryke let out a playful growl, bouncing on his front legs and sending a return wave over her head. She gasped, spluttered, and laughed.

The wind blew Kade's hair into his eyes as he forced his way up the mountain. His gear was all on his back, and he was already straining, breath coming in pants. He had started out earlier that day, and hadn't stopped once. And he was incredibly tired.
