"So, are you going to ask nicely, or not?" Kade asked. "I mean, I understand if it's not super polite. I'd like some grovelling, but it can't be helped if you can't do that, growing up in the woods as you've been doing."
"So, are you going to ask nicely, or not?" Kade asked. "I mean, I understand if it's not super polite. I'd like some grovelling, but it can't be helped if you can't do that, growing up in the woods as you've been doing."
She glared at him, lips pressing in a thin line. "As you reminded me earlier, I am the princess. And princesses don't grovel. Especially not to commonors."
"That's true," he said mildly. "Too bad I'm not just a simple peasant." He cocked his head. "But you don't even know how to be polite, do you?" He asked, sounding curious. "Living in the woods as you've been doing."
She narrowed her eyes. "I can be polite if or when I would like to be. I'm not a complete fucking savage, asshole." the fact that she was using such profanity didn't quite communicate her point very well.
"I see," he said, sounding like he didn't believe her at all.
She glared at him, shifting again on the bed. "No, I don't think you do." she replied, looking over to the window rather than at him. "Besides, why should I be polite, when you haven't been?"
"Because I'm not the one who has to use the restroom," he said mildly.
"Yes, well you're also not the one who was just kidnapped, put in chains, and had her familiar stabbed." she snapped back, grimacing at him.
"That's true," Kade said calmly. Much worse things had happened to him, much worse. But he wasn't about to tell her. She wouldn't care anyway. "But what does that have to do with you needing to go?"
"You haven't been polite, so why should I?" she reiterated, rolling her eyes at him and shaking her head slightly.
"Because I have the advantage right now. Obviously."
She pouted, glaring at him still. "That's bullshit." she retorted, shaking her head.
"You know it's true," Kade said, shrugging. "Your familiar is on top of a mountain, likely dead, and your chained to a bed. Also, I have knowledge of the surrounding areas, weapons, poisons, and how to get people on my side. I have spies everywhere. So yeah, I can say safely that I gave the advantage here."
"Yes I know it's true, ass. I was just saying your reason is bullshit, not that it isn't true." she pressed her lips in a thin line at the mention of Ryke, trying not to show how much it hurt.
"Is that what you were saying?" Kade raised an eyebrow. "Because it didn't sound like that. Well, I guess you can't help not being able to speak clearly, living wild as you've been doing." He shrugged. "It's a mystery why Jacos wants to marry you," he said, almost to himself.
She stiffened at the last part, her eyes widening. She wasn't stupid. She knew that the only reason Jacos would want to marry her was because…oh. To solidify his claim to the throne. Oh.
He noticed her reaction and mistook it to mean something else. "Yeah, I know. Who would want to marry you?"
She glared at him, shaking her head a little bit. "Anyone who wanted to claim the throne as their own." she replied. "Because I'm the only one left." her eyes flickered slightly, and she looked away, looking down at her hands.
He pursed his lips. "I see. Well, why would anyone want the throne? Too much work and responsibility. I'd prefer killing. The life of a Hunter is so much easier, if you ask me."
She snorted. "Of course you'd prefer killing things over any sort of real responsibility." she replied, shaking her head again.
"I would," he said, in a fake cheerful voice. "It's so much easier. People still try to kill me, though. I guess that's no different from being a ruler." He shrugged. "Do you need to go, or not? Because I'm perfectly okay if you don't. I'm just asking you out of the kindness of my heart."
"Yes I need to fucking go." She snarled, shifting and tugging at the bonds on her hands, glaring at him.
"Will you please let me go?" Kade asked, in imitation of her. "Ask nicely, and I'll let you." It was fun, seeing her so uncomfortable.
"Ass. Hole." she snarled. "Will. You. Please. Let. Me. Go." each word was a mockery, dripping with scorn and anger.
"Of course, if the Princess so desires," he returned, every word pronounced with extreme care. "I would love to. For a short while, anyway." With exaggerated slowness, he walked over to her bed, untied her wrists, and mock bowed. "As her lady wishes."
