"Nothing bad?!" her voice rose a little bit. "Ryke's fur still hadn't grown back, and the muscles are damaged!"
"Nothing bad?!" her voice rose a little bit. "Ryke's fur still hadn't grown back, and the muscles are damaged!"
"And?" Kade didn't sound like he cared. At all. "At least you aren't dead, or in a forced marriage with a psycho." He rolled his eyes. "I was watched, even there. I had to make it look real."
She gritted her teeth. "There were plenty of ways to make it look real that didn't involve hurting him." she growled, one hand still resting on Ryke's side. The big bear was watching Kade warily, a soft snarl leaving his throat.
"Eh." He made a noise. "Have you ever tried to keep someone alive without killing them, but you have to make it look real? It's not as easy as it sounds."
She rolled her eyes. "You're a bitch." she snapped out, hands tightening into fists.
"No, I'm not," he said calmly. "I'm an asshole. There's a difference, you know. Bitches are female. And I am most certainly not that."
"Same difference." she replied, waving a hand slightly.
"Agree to disagree," he said smoothly.
"Enough," the Chief said. "Calm down, you two. We have business to talk about."
She looked at the Chief with raised eyebrows. "Alright." She replied simply, leaning into Ryke's shoulder.
"So. Queen. Your Highness. Would you be okay leading the raid into the castle? We want to kick out that Jacos and replace him on the throne. WIth you, of course,"
She nodded. "Of course. But I want some time beforehand to give Ryke more time to heal." she replied, looking at the Chief.
"Of course we'll give you time," he said, smiling warmly at her. "The plans are not yet complete, so we will call you only when they are done." He sent Kade an irritated look, and Kade sent him a winning smile.
Arin nodded a little bit. "Thank you." she replied, one hand still resting on Ryke's fur, sending a glare towards Kade.
He sent her a two fingered salute.
"Would you like a healer to tend to his wounds?" The Chief asked, clearly trying not to snap at Kade.
She sent him back a single fingered salute. The middle one, straight in the air, then looked to the Chief. "Yes please."
"Very well. Katrina, bring them to the healers." He turned to Kade, and as Katrina led Arin away, they could hear him scolding Kade.
Arin walked with Katrina, Ryke by her side. She smiled a little bit, running her hands through her hair.
"Welcome," Katrina said, her tone slightly warmer. "This is called First Base. We didn't really have any creative names to think of, and this seemed to work. It's small, but there is a lot going on here." She shrugged. "Most of them are gone, right now, though, so it's just you, me, the bear, Chief, a few healers, and the cleaners. Oh, and the brat." She jerked her thumb in the direction they had just come from.
Arin nodded, snickering at the nickname for Kade. "Alright." She replied with another nod, looking around.
"Do you want to sleep in the same room as the bear?" Katrina asked. "Or would you prefer to have your own room while he's healed?"
"I'll share with him. Thanks." Arin replied immediately. She didn't want to be separated from Ryke again.
"Alright. We just have a few cots. I hope it will be enough." She opened a narrow wooden door. "Healers? We have something that needs help."
Two women appeared.
"These are the healers, Riss and Nonna," Katrina said. "Ladies, this is the Queen Arin herself, and her familiar. He needs some healing from stab wounds."
Arin nodded a little bit. "Mhmm. Because of a certain asshole." She mumbled to herself, a grown tugging at her features.
Katrina laughed. "He is, isn't he?" She turned to leave. "Well, is there anything else you need, or may I say goodnight?"
Arin shook her head. "I'm good. Thanks" she replied with a quick, firm smile.
