"Well, I'm off," Kade said, straightening, buckling on the rest of his daggers to his belt, and stuffing a few in his shoes and up his sleeves. He was armed to the teeth, and wearing all black. "You coming or not?"
"Well, I'm off," Kade said, straightening, buckling on the rest of his daggers to his belt, and stuffing a few in his shoes and up his sleeves. He was armed to the teeth, and wearing all black. "You coming or not?"
She studied him for a moment. "Fine." she replied, straightening to follow him and hoping she wouldn't regret this choice. She knew that what he did for a living wasn't very pleasant.
As he left the tavern, he felt eyes upon him, but he ignored it. He was used to be watched, and this wasn't anything special. He stopped in an alley, watching, waiting. Two men came up to him. "The Boss wants to see you," they said.
"Don't I know," he said with a rough chuckle. He motioned for Arin to follow. "Come on, my lady."
Arin grimaced a little at the nickname, but didn't say anything about it, merely crossed her arms and followed him silently. She kept her eyes open for anyone else, not wanting to be surprised.
(bump?)
(I'm so sorry! I was just finding motivation hard to come by, and I really want to give you a response where you can actually write something beyond following him… I promise, I'll try to get something up soon!)
(It's alright! Take your time :) )
(Thank you!)
Kade hurried after the two men. They walked quickly, but he didn't try very hard to keep up with them. This was just another ploy to show that they were supposedly more powerful, and he wasn't going to fall for it.
But he didn't know what was going on behind him. A hand shot from one of the doorways and grabbed Arin by the hair, dragging her into the house and slamming the door.
Arin's eyes flashed wide. "Kade–" her voice was cut off as the door slammed shut, and she was arching around, grabbing at the person who had taken her, already fighting.
"Such a pretty little pussycat," a greasy voice purred. "Now what's a thing like you doing following a man like that?" The room, pitch dark except where some faint sunlight shown in through a hole in the roof, smelled terrible. The bartender stepped into the light.
Arin's eyes narrowed as he saw the bartender, her hands coming up, already fisted and ready for a fight. Even though she knew she would lose; the man was too much bigger than her for her to win, but hell if she wasn't going to fight.
The bartender smiled. "We haven't had a girl like you in so long. The boys and I want some fun." There was the sound of loud breathing, and three other men stepped into the light, crowding around her and blocking the door so there was no escape.
She inhaled, eyes flashing between the four. Her brown hair drifted into her face a little bit, but she ignored it for now. "Then why don't you go fuck each other." she snarled, hiding the fear and lifting her chin.
"Because that's already been done." Rats scurried through the building, little nails clicking on the cold stone floor. "Obviously. Plus, why would we leave this opportunity to waste?"
She swallowed softly, trying to calm down. She didn't know what to do. What to say or do about this. She couldn't get out.
(She could control the animals! XD)
The bartender made a move, and the men stepped toward her, licking their lips, and pulling up their sleeves.
(yeah, but they're rats)
Arin's eyes flashed around the room and she remembered the animals. The rats. Sharp little teeth. She looked at the men and snapped her fingers, and then the rats were pouring from the corners of the room, running up their legs and biting.
(That's true… rats are seriously gross.)
Screams. The men, once brave, now sounded like frightened children. "Stop! Ah! No! What is going on!" The bartender turned cold eyes onto Arin. "You! You're a-a-" he couldn't continue.
(yeah lol)
Arin's eyes were icy. "Naturalist, yes." she replied, lifting her chin and not stopping the rats as they swarmed the men.
The other two men soon fell beneath the wave of rodents. "Stop!" The bartender screamed, clinging desperately to the wall. "I'm sorry!" He was practically sobbing now.
Arin pulled the rats back a little bit, but kept them at the men's feet, teeth snapping at them still.
"Thank you. Goddess, thank you." Tears and snot ran down his face, and from the smell that rose from him, he probably wet himself. "I promise, no one in this town will ever mess with you again." He shook his head. "A Naturalist and a Charmer. What else will this town draw?"
She raised an eyebrow a little at the "goddess" title. But she didn't argue, releasing the rats from her control and wishing she still had Ryke. Ryke. Who she had no idea if he was dead or alive. If he had survived the stabbing.
The door was free. She could walk out if she wanted to.
