Killian let out a soft whoop, holding her gently as he guided the hover board through the streets. He sighed softly, grinning wildly as they raced along the streets.
Jade smiled happily as she moved in tandem with Killian to direct the board. She loved seeing the city at night, all lit up and almost peaceful. Sure, there were the occasional nights where she had to deal with one thug or thief, but she wasn't going to complain. She let out a soft sigh as she just took in everything about this moment.
Killian glanced at her. "You alright?" he asked, raising his eyebrows, then looking back up so he wouldn't crash.
Jade nodded. ”Yes. I don't think I've been better. At least not recently.” she smiled, even if he couldn't see it.
Killian nodded, chuckling softly. "Well, that's good." he replied with a smile.
Jade gave a happy hum, glancing at him briefly over her shoulder. ”You doing alright?”
He nodded. "Yeah. By the way…does this thing run out of energy?" he asked, realizing he probably should have asked that earlier, rather than waiting until now to ask it.
Jade nodded. ”It will eventually. It's solar-charged but its power will last for a good five hours on average.” she explained before turning thoughtful. ”But we should probably head back. I never tested if carrying more than one person drains it faster.”
Killian nodded, and the board swung around as he headed back to her base. "Alright." he replied aloud, steadying her carefully as he took quick, hairpin turns.
Jade had no trouble keeping her balance but if she leaned into his hand just a bit more during the sharp turn she would deny it. As they headed back, her mind went to the problem awaiting them to come up with a solution causing that small worry to settle upon her again.
Killian guided the hover board easily back inside her base, bringing it to a stop at her computer monitor. He gently set her down, then got off of it himself.
Jade stepped off and removed her helmet, showing her bright smile. ”Thank you for that. It was so much fun.”
Killian grinned. "You're welcome." He replied. "Now, where do I put this?" He held up the hoverboard, which was now turned off and in his hands.
”Right over there, on it's charging station.” She pointed to a spot near where he had picked it up. ”It should start charging immediately once you do.”
Killian nodded, and put it where she had said to. It began charging. He walked back over to her. "There. Now what?" He asked, cocking an eyebrow at her inquisitively.
Jade smiled at him as she relaxed into her chair. ”Well, while we were gone I had the computer continue to check the attackers’ against a couple of databases.” she said turning to the screen. ”Looks like it finally found a match for the shooter, at least.”
"Well, that's a start. Who?" Killian asked, leaning forward a little and peering at the computer monitors.
”Darren Cook.” Jade replied as she read the file. ”He's a sniper who was in the army for 10 years. Honorable discharge last year. Ouch! Injured in line of duty; percussion grenade blew out his right ear. Was diagnosed with slight PTSD and he lives on the other side of town from where I was attacked.” Her brow furrowed in concerned confusion.
"Hm." he frowned a little. "Doesn't really sound like the type of guy who would attack a hero, but…maybe I'm wrong." he shrugged, examining the image and file carefully.
Jade nodded. ”I agree. This doesn't fit the usual type… unless the PTSD is triggered towards heroes or since you brought up the possibility; maybe he was paid for the hit?” she suggested frowning pensively.
Killian tipped his head slightly, still examining the information. "Yeah, I suppose those are possibilities…" he said slowly, trailing off. "I think paid for it is probably the most likely possibility, especially if he's strapped for cash."
Jade nodded before she started typing, looking into the financial records. ”Yeah, soldiers don't often get paid a whole lot after their service. But look at this; almost over two weeks ago, someone made a deposit of $12,000 into Cook’s account.”
Killian nodded. "Bingo." he replied, leaning on the back of her chair as he looked at the files. "So. Shall we go interrogate him?" he cracked his knuckles, smirking slightly. "Or if you don't want to get your hands dirty, I'll do it."
Jade chuckled. ”No offense, Hex, but I don't think having a villain threaten answers out of someone is a good idea. I’ve interrogated people before. But this one will be tricky because of the circumstances of him shooting me.” she hummed in thought.
Killian grinned. "Well yeah, but…he might answer me better than you, since I'm a villain. And he didn't shoot me." he replied, looking down at her. "That's why I'm saying that I should do it."
