Killian blinked, looking at the picture. "I…don't understand." He said slowly. "How does this picture tell us anything?"
Killian blinked, looking at the picture. "I…don't understand." He said slowly. "How does this picture tell us anything?"
”It’s who the other people in the picture are.” Jade explained. ”The woman is Melissa Howl and the man is Joseph Cook. Darren’s brother and Melissa’s fiancee. Both dead on April 12th, 3 years ago.”
Killian gave her a blank look. "Okay?" He blinked. "Is that… significant?"
”Well, it's significant to him.” Jade pointed out. ”I’m assuming you know the basics of how ”powered” genetics work?” she asked.
Killian nodded. "Yeah. I know you can inherit them, or they can be caused by genetic manipulation and experimentation, like mine."
Jade raised a brow at the admission but didn't comment on it. ”Right. Well, apparently Joseph had powers but they were never listed in his files. And regardless of that fact, both him and his fiancee died as a result of a fight between a hero and a villain.”
"Ah." He replied slowly. "That makes sense." He shook his head a little.
Jade nodded. ”That’s why he has such a grudge against heroes and those with powers.” she sighed.
He nodded. "Yeah…so what do we do now?" He asked, looking at her. "Is there any way you can figure out who hired him?"
Jade nodded. ”I'm sure I can find him but it’ll take a while. The description is a bit vague and nothing unusual about him stuck out.” she sighed. ”I guess all I can do is go through the phone and see if anything pops up… I could always use the GPS to find where they met, maybe he goes there often or someone else saw him there.” she said, perking up slightly.
Killian nodded. "Alright. What can I do to help with that?" He asked, raising an eyebrow slightly. "Or…is there nothing?"
”I'm not sure.” Jade admitted. ”I know what I can do is… advanced but something tells me this guy has used similar cloak and dagger techniques before, so I don't know how much I can actually pull up.” she hummed in thought. ”If I knew why I was the target for this, I could figure out more…”
"Maybe you caused an arrest of or injury to someone he was close to?" Killian suggested. "I know in the criminal world, it's typically an eye for an eye, so to speak, so he might have extended that to you."
”I know you do and those are plausible but… I don't know. I know that’s the tactic he used to get Darren to help him… It just didn't feel like that was his reason.” Jade confessed, closing her eyes as she tried to make herself think about the attack.
"Ah. Hmm." Killian sighed softly. "I…would there be any trace of his blood or skin or something? Anywhere? I could use that in a spell and maybe find out who he is."
Jade brightened for a moment as she smiled at him. ”That's a brilliant idea. I don't think I have any though. Can you use a spell to check my suit? If we have any, it would literally be on me.” she suggested with a light chuckle as she stood up.
Killian nodded. "Actually…I'll need a sample of your blood first, so that the magic can differentiate between the two." He replied, looking at her.
”As long as that’s all it’s used for.” Jade warned with a teasing tone. She really didn't know what his magic was capable of but… She took off one of her gloves and looked for a sharp tool.
Killian raised an eyebrow. "I'm not going to make you fall in love with me or something. Don't worry." He chuckled softly.
Jade laughed and raised a brow. ”I wasn't worried about that until now. Can your magic actually do that?” she asked.
"Oh. And no. I'm like the genie. Can't make anybody fall in love with anyone else, and can't bring anyone back to life. I've tried." He shrugged.
Jade gave a broad smile. ”I’m very glad to hear that. But I have a hard time imagining you have any trouble getting someone to fall for you.” she smirked, deliberately avoiding the topic of necromancy. ”Ah. This will have to work.” she picked up a small pair of wire cutters. ”You don't need much, right?”
He spread his arms. "What, you calling me handsome?" He asked teasingly. He nodded. "Yeah. Just a drop is fine."
”Oh, don't pretend you don't know that you’ve been called a ”charming roguish villain” by the media more than once.” Jade chuckled before taking a deep breath and put the sharp edge against her finger. She closed her gray eyes as she made a decisive cut.
Killian laughed. "Oh, that I do know, yes." He smiled. He reached out, and caught a bit of blood on his finger tips. He let out a breath, and murmured a quiet spell.
