Cas sighed and buried his face in Halm's shoulder. "No, you're probably right… I'm just being stupid and childish, but I can't really change that…"
Cas sighed and buried his face in Halm's shoulder. "No, you're probably right… I'm just being stupid and childish, but I can't really change that…"
"I just said some things were childish," Halm said gently, wrapping his arms around Cas better. "I never said it was stupid."
"B-But I'm nineteen, and I'm being dumb… this is why people always think I'm younger than I am… I'm just stupid…"
"It's okay Cas. This is just who you are. You aren't stupid for being you." Halm sighed softly, pulling Cas close.
"I'm stupid because I'm stupid… I can't even fucking do anything. I can't read, I can't write, I can't swim, I can't go places alone, I can't even build up to courage to want to be alive most of the time. I'm pathetic."
"You're not pathetic," Halm said gently. "You're still alive, aren't you? You don't have to go anywhere alone anymore, you can learn to read and write and swim if you want to."
Cas drew in a shaky breath, trying his best not to cry. "I-I just feel like such a failure all the time…"
Halm gently began to rub Cas's back.
"You're not a failure," he assured softly.
"How am I not a failure? I'm poor and I'm stupid."
"I only find someone a failure if they truly give up. If they finally do kill themselves. Cas, you're still alive. You still have a chance, for anything."
Cas sighed shakily and huddled close to Halm. "I just feel so pathetic and worthless…"
Halm held Cas a little tighter, trying to be comforting.
"You're not," Halm said gently. "You're not to me."
"What possible benefit could you have from having me around? I haven't done anything but inconvenience you."
"You've been anything but an inconvenience," Halm said gently. "I've enjoyed spending time with you. Besides… I didn't bring you here to benefit me. I just wanted to protect you."
Cas sighed softly. "Yeah… from whoever wanted to eat me or something like that… right?"
"That's right," Halm said. "And I'm glad you're safe."
Cas nodded a bit and shifted to be a bit closer to Halm. "Mhmm…"
Halm held Cas close, beginning to walk again. He gently put his hand on Cas's head.
"I really am," he said softly.
Cas stayed quiet, just letting Halm hold him for now.
Halm held Cas close, heading back to the house. It was getting late, he could tell.
Cas yawned a bit, clearly growing tired. He sighed softly and nuzzled against Halm.
Halm held Cas close, bringing him inside.
"I need to finish up my work," he said gently. "Do you want to eat first?"
"Sure…" Cas pulled his hood over his head and retreated into the hoodie for warmth.
"Okay then." Halm made his way to the kitchen. He started cooking, holding Cas close.
Cas was still awake for now, but he was definitely fading. He sighed softly and started gradually relaxing more.
