"Well… where does the meat in the store come from..?" Matthew knew things in stores had to come from somewhere, they didn't just appear out of nowhere. Right?
Not to mention these 'farms' sounded horrifying.

Not to mention these 'farms' sounded horrifying.
"Well, some people have farms where they have animals that are raised for food. I don't know all of the details since I'm not a farmer, but it's supposedly fairly humane."
Yeup, terrifying.
"Let's, uh… let's not tell anyone about the farms," Matthew said, visibly shaken.
"Alright, then. How do you guys get your protein if no one eats meat?"
"The plants," Matthew said. "There are several that have high protein."
"Really? Interesting. Most of our plants on earth don't have any protein."
"Really?" Matthew raised an eyebrow at that. "There are plenty around the village, that's why the area was settled in."
"Really, yeah. Our plants don't have protein. That's why we eat meat and eggs and… I think beans have protein as well."
"Well, beans are a plant," Matthew pointed out. "And we do eat eggs."
She nodded a bit. "I don't think any plants other than beans have any substantial amount of protein in them. What other sorts of things do you eat?"
"Uh… I think that's about it! Just, most plants in general and eggs." Matthew gave a one-sided shrug. "I'm partial to candied flowers, they're a special treat."
She nodded again, though she seemed confused at the second part. "Candied flowers?" She questioned curiously.
"Mhm! You cover the flowers in a thin layer of egg whites, then sprinkle really fine sugar all over them until they're completely covered and leave them out to dry for a couple of days. They're very sweet and crunchy!" Matthew smiled at the thought and the memories that came with it.
"Interesting. Flowers aren't particularly edible in our world." She laughed softly. "I mean, most wouldn't kill you, but they're not really… intended to be eaten, I suppose."
"Really?" Matthew asked. "We do our best to use ever part of the plant, whether for food or fertilizer."
She shrugged. "Well, a lot of people are allergic to pollen, and our flowers don't taste very good, I think. They're not great for humans."
"Really?" Matthew thought a moment, then shrugged some. "We eat the flowers a lot."
She shrugged again as well. "Most of our flowers and stuff aren't very good for eating unless they bloom into fruit."
"Ah. We usually don't eat the fruiting flowers." Matthew let out a breath. "I'm surprised there is so much difference in our worlds…"
"Yeah, it's definitely a lot. I'm sure we'll manage to adjust eventually, though."
"I'm sure, too," Matthew agreed. He looked down at Rowan, smiling some. His love…
Rowan yawned and huddled closer, stirring a bit. "How's he doing?"
"He's still asleep, and he seems to be doing good," Matthew reported, looking up.
"That's good. How long has he been sleeping? He might wake up soon."
"He's been sleeping for a while now, he could wake up any moment," Matthew agreed. He pressed a gentle kiss to Rowan's head, smiling some.
