@Fraust
She nodded, humming softly to herself. "He's stronger now, for sure, but it's definitely difficult to get him to change his mind on anything once he's set on it."
She nodded, humming softly to herself. "He's stronger now, for sure, but it's definitely difficult to get him to change his mind on anything once he's set on it."
"Right, of course… I'm just glad we've managed to convince him to rest as much as he as." Matthew smiled, resting his head on Rowan.
"Mhmm. He definitely needs the rest, even if he says otherwise. I'm sure he'll recover alright as long as we can convince him to keep going like this."
"I think so too. I worry, though…" Matthew let out a breath. "The chances of this being a poison being something he might have ever encountered before is… low, and I worry what it's affects on him will be."
"Well, you said your relative was able to work with poisons, right? He should be able to help Rowan just in case."
"Yes, just in case…" Matthew let out a small sigh. "But… please don't tell Rowan this, but… his powers don't work on venom. Just poison."
"Ah… that's not very helpful then, is it?" She sighed softly. "How do you propose we help him?"
"Rest, for now. We have to keep a close eye on him to make sure his condition doesn't work. Other than that..? Pray to the gods." Matthew let out a small breath, shaking his head.
She nodded a bit, sighing softly. "I'm sure you've got ordinary doctors there too, so he'll be alright."
"Only a couple. I'm not sure if they'll be able to help, though, seeing as you're both not avians…" Matthew was concerned, worried that Rowan wouldn't make it.
"True, but I'm sure basic biology is similar enough that they could at least help some." She ran her fingers through her hair and tied it up with a hair band she had around her wrist.
"Hopefully it is." Matthew watched Rowan's mother a moment, intrigued. He hadn't seen a hair tie like that before- most were ribbons, or scraps of cloth, that had to be tied in place.
She adjusted the hair tie for a moment before continuing to walk, humming idly. "What else should I know about this place?"
Matthew thought for a moment.
"Ties to family and others are very important," Matthew said. "Those who don't have any usually end up giving themselves to the Predators."
"Ah… who are the predators?" She asked. "Or what? I presume it's not exactly the same thing as on earth."
"They're the meat-eaters- the ones who can't survive on just plants like we technically could. You… can survive on plants, right?" Matthew looked down at Rowan's mother, eyebrow raised.
"Yes, we could. We usually use the word 'predators' for animals that survive by killing other animals for meat. Humans eat meat and plants, but we don't hunt much anymore. We have automated systems and farmers and such so that food is easily accessible at grocery stores and such."
"Oh, so there's no meat in your stores then?" Matthew hummed, looking out. "We see Predators as those who require meat in their diets to survive. We avians don't technically need it, so we aren't Predators. We can survive just fine on plants, seeds, and other things like that."
"We do have meat in stores, actually. We eat a fair amount of meat and it's definitely good for us, but we can survive without it." She shrugged a bit. "We could substitute it for anything with protein in it."
"A-Ah…" Matthew trailed off. If the Counsil found out, they might view Rowan and his mother as Predators… and that wouldn't be good at all.
"Like I said, we don't technically require it, but most people do eat meat. People who don't eat meat are vegetarians, and people who don't eat any animal products at all are called vegans."
"Perhaps… you should keep this part of your culture a secret here," Matthew said, voice soft.
She seemed a bit confused, but slowly nodded. "Uh… alright, then."
"Most… don't react well to those who have meat as a large part of their diet." Matthew looked away. He himself was spooked.
"I suppose that makes sense. Rowan and I don't eat a ton of it anyway." She shrugged a bit. "We don't hunt or anything. We just buy stuff from the store."
