"They are," Matthew agreed. "It's just harder to find them. They're probably out grazing in the fields by the village."
"They are," Matthew agreed. "It's just harder to find them. They're probably out grazing in the fields by the village."
"Mm… but that's too far away for them to hear us calling them, I guess." Rowan sighed softly.
"Just a bit," Matthew said, holding back his chuckle. "I'm sure when we're within a day's walk we'll find them, and then we can go to the village with them."
"Mmmm…" Rowan sighed again and huddled closer. "But that's so loooong… I wanna get back to the village…"
Matthew did chuckle softly at that.
"We'll be back soon, I promise," he said, moving to kiss Rowan gently.
Rowan whined softly, closing his eyes. "It feels like we've been traveling for ages…"
"I know," Matthew said, smiling some as he hugged Rowan close, "But we're almost there. Think you can hold out for me dear?"
"Mmmmm… I dunno… I guess so…" Rowan huffed a bit to himself and huddled closer.
"Thank you so much," Matthew said. The avian hummed softly, kissing Rowan very lightly on the lips.
Rowan relaxed a little in Matthew's arms and yawned, seeming to finally be willing to let himself rest for a while. After several minutes, he drifted off into a light sleep.
Matthew smiled as Rowan drifted off, looking to his mother.
"I'm sorry I wasn't able to do any flying with you last night," he said, remembering what he had said.
"Don't worry about it." She smiled softly and kept walking. "Is he asleep?" She asked. "Both of you doing alright?"
"Yes, he's asleep," Matthew said softly. "And I think we are, yes." He smiled some, walking himself.
She nodded a bit. "It's good that you got him to compromise. He needs his rest while he's recovering."
"He really does…" Matthew let out a small hum.
"I'm genuinely surprised it worked."
"Me too. I guess that's proof he likes you, though." She laughed softly, continuing to walk.
Matthew laughed as well, hugging the sleeping Rowan close.
"Yes, I guess so. Truly, I am glad that he does…" Matthew still was just a lovestruck idiot, it seemed.
Rowan's mother smiled fondly up at the two of them. "You'd better take good care of him. He's been through a lot with relationships already."
"I wouldn't dream of anything less," Matthew said, offering a smile. "I'm going to make sure he's happy, no matter what."
She nodded a bit. "That's good. I think he'll be happy with you. You've already been considerably better than any of his previous boyfriends, honestly."
"Ah… really?" Matthew was a bit surprised by that. He hadn't done much special in his own mind.
She nodded again. "He's dated a fair few less than honorable men. You're doing just fine by just being yourself."
Matthew let out a breath.
"While I am glad to hear I am able to do well as myself, it is troubling to hear there were men so willing to hurt Rowan."
"He used to be easy to manipulate. That's part of why he's so stubborn now. He doesn't want to be controlled."
"Ah… that makes sense," Matthew said softly. He held Rowan closer, gently kissing his head.
