I honestly don’t really understand. Like, I can understand that it exists. But not how you are forced for it to decide how you will live.

When a system is in place and you rely on it to live your life (capitalism or if you don't want me to be a dirty socialist (no we will not discuss my anti-capitalism here or ever), just a company that you need to work for and a government you need to live under and society in general) is controlled by men who view everything you do as for their pleasure, and women who think the same way as men, there's not really room for you to do something for yourself, say "I'm doing this for myself, not the male gaze" and have people believe you, not criticize you, and not make massive assumptions about how you're lying for male attention
The closest similarity I can think of is how you dress. You dress, or at least ideally dress, very flamboyantly and somewhat feminine to my understanding. You do this because you like it. But when you go out in a glitter mask or short shorts or a crop top, people will assume you're gay. No matter how much you scream "being gay is a sin! I'm straight! Please don't hate crime me!", homophobia is so rampant that what you're wearing means you're gay. You might not get a job because of it, you might get hate crimed, you might have men hit on you, whatever it is, it's not your fault. You're just wearing something with glitter.
Except you have the ability to wear a sweatshirt, loose jeans, and a snapback and have people think "ah, a straight male." People assume that whatever women do or wear is to please men. We can't wear either thing without that assumption, and it goes much deeper than going out in public one time

Okay I like this a lot because it’s super easy to understand. I actually don’t dress that way most days. A bit sad. Though crop tops aren’t really my thing, though I support any man who wants to. (Theoretically. I might think it’s lame when they can’t pull it off.)
But no matter what people assume, I can choose to wear some tie dye and shiny glasses and glittery mask. There might be consequences. And I’ve dealt with that because it has happened. But I still can decide to. So in a way I still don’t get it.

Um. You won’t find this as humorous as I did but. This explains it.

I'm glad you're aware that I was going to find it problematic, pointless, and a little offensive? It doesn't explain it.

If people wanna have sex they should deal with the consequences. Like adults should do with any privilege.

@Pickles group

  1. Viagra is such less a need than birth control. It helps men get off. Birth control and condoms exist for health and safety. I can't believe that was even a part of that video.
  2. If you think abortion wasn't illegalized specifically to demonize women for 'wanting smaller families' and to control their bodies, you're batshit. It had nothing to do with religious reasons. The Puritans were a lot more progressive than you think and before the 1800s, not even religion was going to try to stop you, but again, banned topic so moving on. Just thought I'd mention it. Your idea of other people having sex is some toxic purity culture bullshit.

I feel people wanna sex they can. Cool. Whatever. I just don’t want to have to deal with their consequences. I don’t see the problem with someone else’s sex life being theirs.

But- birth control is them dealing with the consequences. Having ways to have fewer consequences for something safely isn't a bad thing at all.

Imagine if you couldn't choose. If idk. There was glitter eyeshadow stuck permanently to your eyelids and every time you put something on, it turned into a dress. Or if you walked outside in pants and a man beat you up because to everyone else it looks like you're wearing a dress.

@Pickles group

Did you mean to say the Quakers and Unitarians? Cuz the Puritans were very not progressive to my knowledge.

I was doing some research that said the Puritans but I guess it could be wrong?

Viagra is stupid and should also not be paid for by anyone else.

Idk where you got that. All of that actually.
But abortion was brought back to kill black people. Margret Sanger. Eugenist.

Oookay. (Not sarcasm.)

Sure sure. Except they should be buying their safety net. Not forcing others to buy it for them.

@berlioz

Dom do you have a response to my thingy

I have the same answer to the others so I didn’t. Personal responsibility with sex basically.

But if you're prolife then why wouldn't you wanna prevent abortions the only way you can? Like isn't that what being prolife is all about? I'm prolife (but don't think the govt should take away the abortion commodity) and I don't want people to have abortions (but think they should have the choice). The only way to prevent that is to educate and provide contraceptives. What's your proposal for reducing abortions?

Look, I get it. We live in a capitalist world where everything is about money, and not actually people being able to take care of themselves. I'm not going to get into that, but I've said my piece. I'm already under a lot of stress from talks with my father about these things, and it was impulsive of me to say anything, but I did, and I stand by it. And is it so horrible to ask that people are able to take care of their health this way instead of having to get a much more expensive abortion or even even more expensive birth later on?

You’re ProChoice. You think people should have the choice. That’s what being ProChoice is about.
The only way is to not have abortions. That’s the only “only way”.
I want it illegal. I want people to realize sex leads to babies because that’s super basic. I want a multitude of places where people provide help to people so that they don’t feel the need for an abortion.

That's not going to stop them. People don't like abortions, they have them because they need them and you're not going to change people's opinion on it by making it illegal. They're not going to stop having them, they're just going to be dangerous. And planned parenthood.. already does that, don't they? They don't just do abortions, I'm pretty sure they also help people out so they don't need one.

Making it illegal will shut down numbers. And people will not be dying in droves like they say.
PP has a propaganda team. Abortion is their Deal. It’s their money maker. They do other stuff sometimes. But abortion is what they stand for.
