Vale began as two groups on opposite sides of a riverbank – a human refugee camp led by Rosalia, and a band of Aberrants seeking to flee the war led by Calix. Though both groups were understandably wary of each other at first, over time their shared experiences – and the innocence of the human and Aberrant children that grew to befriend each other – helped their leaders form a friendship that slowly grew to include the rest of their people as well.
About a month after both groups met, a group of enemy Aberrants attacked both the human and Aberrant camps, forcing both sides to put aside their differences to fight the enemies off. During the conflict Calix and Rosalia both witnessed firsthand the compassion their people had for other, and the two leaders saved each other's lives more than once. Once the rogue Aberrants were defeated human and Homunculus treated each other's wounds, and from that day onward an interspecies friendship borne of mutual gratitude took root.
Sometime after the event Calix opened up to Rosalia about his dream of a world where humans and Aberrants could live together peacefully. Though surprised at the prospect and unsure of whether it would work, Rosalia trusted Calix and agreed to the latter's proposition of building a settlement consisting of both humans and Aberrants. Once both leaders received their people's blessing, they co-founded the village of Vale and led it together, much to their new citizens' delight. The pair grew particularly close to all of the human and Aberrant children in the village, and continue to watch over Vale as it grew in the years to follow.
