Calix was once a Gaelenian soldier who turned Homunculus after being worn down by the injustices of the world, with his breaking point being witness to his commanding officer torturing and raping his comrades as punishment for a failed mission. As a Homunculus Calix easily seized control of a massive army of Aberrants and won many strategic and tactical victories throughout the war. However his victories were short-lived as the humans adapted with better armor and weaponry, and before long Calix found himself on the losing end of many a battle – nearly all of which ended in his comrades being massacred over and over again.
Gradually Calix found himself cynical over the nature of war, and with that, aimless and purposeless. After a particularly nightmarish battle one day, Calix defected, leading a band of like-minded Aberrants in the hopes of finding a peaceful life elsewhere. It was from that point onward that Calix and his followers devoted themselves to pacifism, praying for a future where no one would ever have to shed blood against another again.
Said prayer led to a fateful encounter with Rosalia, who led a human refugee camp. Despite initial mutual wariness both groups gradually warmed up to each other, and eventually grew close after banding together to fend off an enemy Aberrant attack.
Sometime after the event Calix opened up to Rosalia about his dream of a world where humans and Aberrants could live together peacefully. Though surprised at the prospect and unsure of whether it would work, Rosalia trusted Calix and agreed to the latter's proposition of forming a trial settlement consisting of both humans and Aberrants. Once both leaders received their people's blessing, they co-founded the village of Vale and led it together, much to their new citizens' delight. The pair grew particularly close to the human and Aberrant children in the village, and continued to watch over Vale as it grew in the years to follow.
