Winter nodded a little bit, rubbing his eyes slightly. "Mm. I'm fine." He replied, taking a deep breath.
Winter nodded a little bit, rubbing his eyes slightly. "Mm. I'm fine." He replied, taking a deep breath.
"Good," Mycah said slowly. "There's some oatmeal keeping warm on the stove if you want breakfast," They added, waving their hand towards the kitchen. "There's not much to put on it, but it's not too bad."
Winter nodded again, and headed to the kitchen to get the food. He looked tired and worn out as he came back to the table.
Mycah had sat back down when Winter went to the kitchen and was doodling on the edge of the paper as he came back. "If you want to stay here and rest for a bit, I can go get the stuff on my own," They offered, looking up at Winter.
Winter blinked, looking over at him. "Oh– I don't have to stay, I'm fine. I can come if you like." he replied slowly, running a hand through his hair and looking at Mycah.
"Okay, good." Mycah nodded slightly, feeling a small rush of relief wash over them. Going to the store alone would have been… an experience, and not one they really wanted to endure. "But eat first."
Winter nodded, taking a bite of food. "Yeah. I just…I might go to bed early tonight." he said. "I'll be a bit more tired today than normal."
"Okay." Mycah flipped the pen around in their hand. It made sense that Winter was tired– even if it hadn't exactly been him running around, it was still him.
Winter kept eating, taking a deep breath and trying to focus on what was going on right now, on the present, not on what was inside of him.
Mycah kept silently doodling, not wanting to disturb Winter. They were sure what he was going through wasn't all that easy and they didn't want to annoy him with senseless chatter. They weren't Allx, after all. A small, sad smile spread across their face at the memory.
Winter took another deep breath, and finished up his food. He got up, taking the bowl to the kitchen and washing it off, then came back. "There."
"Ready?" Mycah asked, looking up at Winter. "Do you have anything else to add to the list?" They carefully tore the first page with the shopping list out of the notepad and stood up.
Winter nodded, then shook his head. "I'm ready, and no, I don't think so." He replied, running a hand through his hair.
"Alright." Mycah nodded. "I'm just going to get my bag and I'll be right back." They carefully folded up the list as they walked to the room they'd slept in. Mycah grabbed the backpack and walked back to the dining room. "Let's go," They said, starting towards the door.
Winter nodded, and opened up the door, holding it open for Mycah. "Let's go." He said simply.
Mycah gave Winter a small nod and walked towards the road. They were not excited to go back into that supermarket, but at least they weren't alone. Though they would have braved it if Winter hadn't wanted to go.
Winter closed the door and followed Mycah out, letting out a slow breath. "Alright. So what's on the list?"
"Uh…" Mycah pulled the list out of their pocket and unfolded it. "Dish soap, playing cards, and cinnamon/brown sugar, just to spice up the oatmeal."
Winter nodded a little bit. "Alright, sounds good." He replied, putting his hands in his pockets and wincing when the motion pulled at the raw skin on his knuckles.
"You good?" Mycah asked, looking at Winter with concern. "Do we have a first-aid kit? We should, right?" They hadn't picked one up– stupid– but maybe Winter had. If not, it should probably get added to the list.
Winter nodded again. "Yeah, I'm fine." he replied. "I just got splinters in my knuckles and it stings like a bitch." he looked over at Mycah.
"Oh, that doesn't feel good." Mycah winced. "Did you get to clean them so they won't get infected?" They asked, feeling a bit like a parent. But hey, anyone getting too hurt or sick wouldn't be a good thing. They were both wanted, after all. Mycah wouldn't put it past a doctor to turn them over to the authorities.
Winter shrugged. "I got the splinters out, so I should be fine." he replied. "I can clean them when we get back to the house." he shot Mycah a quick smile.
"Ah, good. Okay." Mycah nodded slightly and folded the list back up. They stuck it into their pocket and returned Winter's smile. It was quite nice out, for which they were glad.
Winter nodded a little bit. "Yeah." he repleid simply, stretching and looking over at their companion. Friend? He didn't know.
