Mycah turned the corner onto the main street. The farther away they got from the house, the less they were enjoying themselves, even with the nice weather. This town, as small as it was, was still bigger than the one they'd grown up in.
He kept walking with Mycah, eyes flashing around a little bit, keeping a wary gaze out for anyone else. "You alright?" he asked after a while.
"Yeah. Still trying to get used to… people," Mycah said softly, waving around at the town. "There's a lot of them." They laughed slightly and shook their head. "And you?" Mycah looked up at Winter.
Winter laughed a little bit. "Yeah. I'm good. The…demon isn't as active as it was, so I'm fine for now." he replied with a shrug.
"That's good," Mycah answered, nodding slightly in approval. They wondered if there was any sort of way to get the demon out, but didn't voice the question. A few days of relative peace would be nice before anything like that got started.
Winter let out a breath, shaking his head a little bit. "Yeah, it is." he replied, looking around.
Mycah kept walking, ducking their head when people passed by them. Maybe investing in some sort of way to change their eye color temporarily would be a good idea.
Winter looked over when Mycah kept ducking their head. "You sure that you're alright?" he asked, raising an eyebrow a little bit.
"Yeah. I just wish there was something I could do to change these," Mycah gestured at their eyes, "to a less conspicuous color, you know? At least while we're outside. I feel like they're going to give me away."
He nodded slowly. "Ah. Yeah. I don't really know how to help you with that, sorry. Unless you want to wear sunglasses all the time?"
"Um… probably not. Though they might help a little." Mycah shrugged. "This is the problem with all the magic-users being arrested. No more disguise amulets or charms." They shook their head.
He nodded a little bit. "Yeah. Sorry." he replied, looking over at Mycah. "I don't really know how else to help you. I don't have any magic, and you don't want to ask the demon."
"Mmm, no I don't," Mycah agreed, turning onto the street where the supermarket was. They wished there was a magic-user who had those and hadn't been arrested yet, but for now, it appeared they'd be getting sunglasses.
Winter let out a soft breath as he walked with Mycah, rubbing his eyes tiredly. "So, do you want to add sunglasses to the list, then?"
"I guess I have to," Mycah sighed. They really didn't want to spend that extra money, but there was nothing else they could do… except for one thing. Mycah's brow furrowed as they considered this new option. It could work.
Winter nodded a little bit. "Yeah, alright." he replied, looking around the street as they headed towards the supermarket.
Mycah took a deep breath, trying to remember what to do. It had been so long since they last used their unexpected power that they weren't sure they still remembered how to use it. There was a lot of concentrating… and of course, the music.
Winter was quiet, still looking around as they walked. He wanted to keep an eye out for anyone who might be looking at them with suspicion.
Mycah started humming softly, trying to make sure no one else but Winter could hear. They focused on being inconspicuous, preferably keeping their eye color to a normal shade. Mycah tapped Winter's arm, still humming. Hopefully, Winter would see normal-colored eyes. Maybe a nice brown color?
Winter listened a little bit, turning to look. He blinked slowly when he saw Mycah's eyes had…changed. "Ah, your…your eyes have…changed." he said slowly.
"Yes!" Mycah grinned. With the humming stopped, Mycah's eyes slowly faded back to their normal orange color. "No need to buy sunglasses now." They started humming again, louder now that they knew it would work.
Winter laughed a little. "But… if you have to keep humming the whole time…" He said slowly, frowning a little bit.
"Yeah, that's a downfall for sure," Mycah admitted. "Maybe I could figure out how to make the effect last longer. Or you could just do all the talking." They laughed softly, then began humming again.
Winter laughed a little bit. "Please excuse me friend, he can't stop humming or his eyes change colors?" he said, smiling as he looked over at Mycah.
"Exactly," Mycah said, grinning. They nodded, quickly going back to humming. Maybe if they found a magical amulet, they could somehow put some of their magic into it.
