Derlik glanced up when Nik started waking up. Good. He laid Smoke down across his lap, scratching beneath his chin and neck.
Derlik glanced up when Nik started waking up. Good. He laid Smoke down across his lap, scratching beneath his chin and neck.
Nik sighed faintly, opening his eyes and blinking at Derlik and Smoke.
"You finally awake?" Derlik said, not looking up. "I'm surprised by how tired you were, seeing how it's still morning." His hint that Nik hadn't fallen asleep on his own.
Nik frowned a little bit. "I…" He shook his head a little. "I wasn't." He said slowly.
"Well, you've been asleep for almost a half hour now." Derlik glanced up Nik, a mischievous look on his face.
"I wonder why you fell asleep if you weren't tired?"
Nik frowned. "Did you do something?" He demanded, eyes narrowing.
"Why would you say that?" Still, Derlik's face have him away. Why yes, yes he had.
Nik shook his head a little bit, but didn't speak.
Derlik gave a small smirk.
"Come join us! We're having some fun." He scratched Smoke's head lightly.
Nik frowned a little bit. "I…" his eyes flicked to Smoke, and he bit his lip.
"What? Nervous? He's still just Smoke." Derlik looked at Smoke, cooing.
Smoke mewed quietly, looking over at Nik and purring.
Derlik scratched Smoke's head lightly.
"He's still your kitten. Even if he's more him human now."
Nik bit his lip a little, unsure how to handle this. Smoke looked like…a fifteen year old or something. Not the kitten Nik was used to.
"He's still a cat. Just like how you were still a human whenyou were a cat." Derlik smiled at Smoke, cooing a little.
He shook his head a little. "No, it's… different." He said slowly.
"How so?" Derlik looked up at Nik, one eyebrow raised.
"I see no difference."
"He's a…a cat. Not…I don't know." He mumbled, shaking his head slightly and looking away.
Derlik let out a soft breath. He picked Smoke up in his arms, standing. He moved a bit closer to Nik.
"You're right, he is a cat. He's not a human. See?" Derlik motioned to Smoke's ears and tail.
Smoke meowed quietly, tail twitching. Nik shook his head a little. "It's…I don't know."
Derlik rolled his eyes a little. He set Smoke down on the rock in front of Nik. He put his hand on Smoke's head, ruffling his hair a little.
"Then don't think of him as a cat when he's like this. That doesn't mean you should just reject him."
Smoke purred a little, blinking up at Nik. Nik bit his lip. "I…"
"Com'on, Nik. Be nice." Derlik rubbed Smoke's head a little.
Nik narrowed his eyes at Derlik. "What, like you?" he snapped sarcastically.
Derlik glared at Nik from being Smoke, danger in his eyes again.
"My… Idea from before is seeming very tempting right now," he said lowly.
