Kye moved things back to the way they had been before he'd had company over. Hopefully he could walk through this without a fight, but just in case he was ready for one. He could hear whoever was going door to door. They were maybe six doors from him. His neighbors thankfully knew that he was the type to help out those who needed it, and weren't likely to give him up easily.
Ethyn fell into the apartment through the window. How he had managed to scale the wall handcuffed he'd never know but he did it. He glanced out the window and then turned to look around. Spotting Kye, he yelped and then covered his own mouth with his hand. "Heh Heh, uh hi. Is this your room? I'm sorry I didn't mean to intrude I just-" He froze and made a strained whine before turning to climb back out the window.
Kye turned on his heel with his gun drawn, and aimed at the man that had just fallen into his apartment. "Who on earth are you and what do you want?" He spotted the cuffs and lowered his gun. "Would you like some help with those?"
Ethyn flinched backwards at the sight of the gun. Then made a face like he was about to cry mixed with a nervous grin. He held his hands out and whispered "Thank you." He kept his eyes firmly on the gun.
Kye tipped his head to listen to what was going on out in the hall. Then he moved with speed to a drawer and pulled out what looked similar to a cuff key. He tossed it to Ethyn. "Pull them off and hide them quickly. There's someone out in the hall with a gun questioning people about someone. I'm not sure who but I have a couple runaway children that I'm trying to protect. And I don't want them getting found."
Ethyn's eyes widened. He bit his lip and looked down before starting to work on the cuffs and darting into the other room
Ava had been listening in on the whole conversation and narrowed her eyes slightly. Who was this guy, and why were they here?
Kye turned back towards the door, and put his gun back in it's holster. There was a knock on his door. Taking a deep breath and walking over to the door, he checked through the hole to see who it was. No one he recognized. He opened the door a little, keeping his knee against it. "Can I help you?"
(Anyone want to play whoever just came to the door? Or should I?)
(Yeah, I can do that. But I wanted to make sure no one else wanted to be them before I just kind of assumed.)
(can people come back? I'm bored in school)
(Yeah I'm just gonna act the person)
A man was at the door, his gun in a hidden holster. His eyes were hardened, and he didn't show any signs of feeling. He took a badge from inside his coat. Holding it up, one could easily see that he was an FBI agent. "Sir, I'm Special Agent Crowley, also a private investigator. I've been hired by the Hall family to find a missing person. I've also been commissioned by the FBI to find a little boy, goes by the name of Kain? Not to mention, the FBI wants to find a dangerous person, a convict who recently escaped from his cell. Have you seen either of those people?"
Inside the closet, Ava trembled at the man's words. Her worst nightmare. Her family was looking for her. That meant she hadn't been careful enough, she hadn't been cautious enough, she hadn't been paranoid enough. Was not staying with strangers enough? She wasn't ready to be recaptured, only to be murdered.
From the bedroom, Ethyn laughed silently. A dangerous person? Flatterer He struggled with the handcuffs, he had one side off and was attempting the other.
(Sorry, school got really busy. I'm so sorry.)
Kye pulled back and looked the man up and down. "Okay I'm going take a step back and ask, the missing person, is it an adult? As for the kid, I live alone with a cat that hates me. And I would prefer not house criminals. I haven't even heard that there was a criminal in the area until this moment. That answer your questions?"
"No," the man answered darkly. "The Hall's are looking for a teenager; Ava, Ava Hall. Do I have permission to search your apartment?"
"Shit." Ethyn whispered to himself. He flattened himself to the floor and rolled under the bed. He seemed to melt into the shadows.
Kye held his ground in the doorway. "No," he replied calmly.
Kion was shaking in spite of himself, he knew he was scared but whispered "is it safe"
The man narrowed his cold eyes. From inside his coat he pulled out a walkie talkie of sorts. Speaking into it, he spoke in a demanding tone, "I want backup and a search warrant for 34B of the Dragon Apartments."
Ava bit her lower lip. Thank goodness Kye wouldn't let the man pass. She gently put an arm around Kain. "Aw, kid," she didn't want to tell him no, but if she said yes, would he walk out then? "No," she said softly, having decided on the answer she would give him.
"I do have some info for you," Kye spoke in an even tone. "That girl. Ava. I may have seen her somewhere. If you can give me a description, I can confirm that it was her I saw by the cafe a few blocks down."
Ethyn looked confused. No? Who was this guy? Even lying about that girl, what the hell was he doing? This guy, this 'Special Agent Crowley', meant business. Lying to the FBI? Ethyn was impressed
The man ignored him. This person, whoever he was could be lying about the girl he was looking for. A few minutes later, three other men dressed similarly showed up, one with a paper in hand. "You ordered, sir. Signed and looked over by the boss-man himself." The FBI agent scanned the search warrant, taking it. I, the commander of… Yeah, this was the official thing. Holding the paper up to Kye, he said, "I have a search warrant here, signed by my higher up. Stand back, I have legal permission to search this apartment. He withdrew his own gun from his holster, keeping it near him, but not aiming it at anyone or anything in particular.
Ava seemed to shrink into herself. The agent was going to search this apartment? Shit, she was so screwed. "Kain, get in here. We need to get away, now," she whispered to Kain. She'd used his name, which meant she was being serious. She didn't usually those younger than her whom she didn't know by their name. She usually just called them "kid".
"Oh shit. Oh shit oh shit" Ethyn was in the bedroom. No escape routes there aside from the window. He couldn't risk it, he'd already climbed up it and wasn't sure how much more of that his body could take. He could risk running, but then that guy would be in trouble. He'd run if he needed too. He could take out a couple of the men, there were four now, he counted the footsteps. But they had guns. He'd have to account in his plan for the pause he'd make…
"I'm sorry, but I don't believe you have probable cause," Kye planted himself in the FBI agent's ways. "That warrant means nothing, unless you have probable cause. I don't care if you're the president of the United States. My answer is still no." He subtly rested his hand on his back hip near his gun.
