Raz had found a cafe nearby and ordered some pastries for breakfast as well as some boba tea and a coffee for Jay. He took the long way back to the hospital, wanting to let the two talk before he came back
(Sorry! Had to shower)
"You need to get over yourself and get more contracts." "Isn't that, I don't know, a bit whoreish?" "I'm not saying you have to sleep with every guy you meet although if you are going to go that route, I recommend going for taken guys, especially married ones. They'll do anything to keep things quiet." "So you're not going to force me to be an escort but you are recommending that I become a manipulative sex slave?"
Raz came back and peeked in through the window. He sighed softly in relief, glad the two hadn’t torn each other apart and sat outside waiting for them to be done
Marcus sighed a stepped forward, tilting Jay's head up to look at him. "You take everything I say much too seriously." "It's my job to, Marcus." He smirked and pulled him closer. "Is it? I think it's more your job to listen to me, to be good for me, isn't it pet?" He gulped, blushing red. Marcus was always a flirt, he found it easier to get people to listen to him when they associated him with more of a romantic interest.
(Ohhhh dang Jay fell for demon Brendan Urie too!!!)
Raz finished off his breakfast and went back inside to check on the two. His eyes widened as he rounded the corner. He backed away and hit the ground running, dropping the coffee on his way out. He sprinted towards his own house, not wanting to be anywhere near any demon. i knew it! I knew it and I fell for it again! How could I have been so stupid…. he shoved his way to through the house and locked himself in the bathroom
(Maybe he did, but was it by his own choice or did Marcus make him?)
He finally gained the mental strength to shove Marcus away. "Stop that! My heart belongs to another." "Not for long it doesn't." Now Jay was confused. "What the hell are you talking about?" "I just saw Raz bolt back home crying. He's probably heartbroken." "What?! No! No no no, what did you do??" "Come on now Jay, once he's out of the way, you can continue on with your work."
(oh….oh shoot….so Marcus made Raz see something different? or ran thought he was doing something different? something along those lines, right?)
Raz was sitting in the corner of the bathroom, glass scattered along the floor and his hand cradled in his lap. He sobbed quietly and leaned his head against the wall. He had turned on the shower to drown out his thoughts and occasional wails that escaped him.
(There's a very distinct difference between Jay and Marcus. Jay is a rookie who's barely gotten his first contract while Marcus is a refined professional who's been doing this for centuries. He knows what he's doing and how to make people see or believe things that aren't true or that didn't happen. So yes, he made Raz see something much more drastic, he made him feel more upset and betrayed than he should be.)
"I have to talk to him, I have to explain what happened!" "Oh no you don't." He pulled Jay forward and kissed him. Here's the thing about professionals like Marcus, because he's so good at what he does, he can make people submit to him easily with a simple touch or word. And because Jay is so new and can't resist it, he's completely under Marcus's control. Remember, demons. He's not afraid of being mean. When Marcus pulled back, Jay was silent, submissive to him.
(okay ,now I get it! I'm sorry if i interpreted that as something else)
Raz stood up from his spot after a while and numbly took a warm bath. He cleaned and bandaged his hand before slipping into something comfortable and sitting on his couch. He rested his hand on the arm of the couch and glanced around the room, his home feeling unfamiliar and empty.
"Now then, who do you belong to?" "You, sir." "Good. When you get out of this hospital, I'm relocating you. Clearly this town is too much." Had Jay been himself and not the submissive servant than Marcus made him, he would've protested. But now, he just nodded. "Yes sir."
After a day or two, ran decided to go back to the hospital. He told himself it was to retract the contract from Jay, and if not from Jay then from Marcus. He talked to the nurse for a while before heading down to jay's room an walking in "take it back." he said, hiding his injured hand behind his back and showing Jay the marking on his arm
He'd spent the past few days recovering from his encounter with Marcus, still not completely sure what Marcus had made him see until Raz walked in the room. He'd been so happy to see him until he spoke and all the joy in his face died. "W-What?" His heart smashed into a thousand pieces like glass dropped on the floor.
"Relieve. me. from. the. contract." He said, slowly thing time. "you've shown me your true purpose, now you have nothing to do with me, take it back." His hand clenched behind him momentarily and Raz hissed in pain. he felt the wound reopen and cursed beneath his breath
"Raz…I can't. I told you this before, I can't take a contract back. You're stuck with me. You don't have to associate with me but I can't take it back. I'm your eternity." He was about to start crying. Idiot! You fall for the first person you see when allowed back on Earth and now you're getting your heart broken. "And I don't know what you're talking about when you say true purpose, my purpose is to protect you, you know this."
He shook his head and looked away "no, you're not allowed to say that, not when you've broken what you were supposed to protect. You honestly think I'm going to believe anything you say when not a few days ago I walked into you and your boss smothering each other?" He turned away and ran his hand through his hair in desperation, eyes welling up with tears. "that's all you needed." he laughed in disbelief "one long-term contract just so you could be your boss's new favorite lap dog."
He tilted his head in confusion. "What are you talking about?" Then it clicked. That's what Marcus made him see. "Oh you're joking. He didn't. He wouldn't dare."
"what wouldn't he dare to do?" he sat in one of the chairs across from the bed. He had dark circles around his eye from the lack of sleep as well as from crying most of the night. "I don't even know why I ask at this point." he laughed humorlessly and stood up, not being able to stay still. "fine, I'll play along. What did he do? hm?"
"Marcus is a master manipulator. He's my manager for a reason, he's been a contractor for centuries. He can make people see, hear, and believe lies. He twists people's minds to make them submit to him. He does the same thing to me since I'm too new to this to be able to resist his powers. He wants you out of the picture so he's manipulating you to make you think you saw something that you didn't." He was aware he sounded insane, tears filling his eyes. "Please, you have to believe me, I don't want to hurt you."
"that's all oddly specific and convenient." he crossed his arms over his chest "if he wants me out of the picture, why did he send you out to make a contract, fully knowing what could happen if you got attached your bonded?" he asked, slowly losing his hostility and calming down "It's considerate of him in a way. to deceive me out of your life instead of just kill me and not have to worry anymore." he muttered
"He sent me here because he thought it'd be easy. It's a town I know and a place I'm comfortable in. Had he known that this would happen, he never would've sent me here. He wants you gone so he can relocate me. Once I'm out of the hospital, I'm leaving. And it's why I don't want you to hate me, I'll be devastated to know that you still despise me when I'm gone."
RAz closed his eyes and let the tears fall. He sat on the bed "I don't hate you," he whispered, voice breaking. "I hate what you do sometimes, sure. But i don't hate you." he took a few calming breaths and layed his head against Jay's shoulder. "he never said I couldn't move…" he said after a few moments of silence. "He never said I couldn't follow you. just that you had to relocate…"
"But that could be anywhere. And you have a life to live. You shouldn't have to spend your life chasing after me. Stay here. Have fun. Be you. I'll go and deal with the consequences of my own actions."
He sighed softly, knowing Jay was right. He couldn't spend the rest of his life chasing Jay around. Not that he had much of a life before Jay but it was still the life he had built up since his last relationship. "Is there any way i can help from here?" he asked softly, turning so he faced Jay. "will you be able to come back once you deal with Marcus?"
"I find it doubtful. Once I leave, I'll never see this town again. But I'm never falling for another person again. That's something only you get to have."
"You'll find someone else," he said softly "don't wait for me. I wouldn't want that for you. you deserve to be happy too." he kissed him gently "maybe we'll find each other one day. I don't plan on living here forever. Fate will play out."
