Marin could help. Kit had plenty of potentials, he just needed to learn how to control it. The mage hummed, sitting down on the with Kit in their lap.
"You're going to be great with magic one day, I can tell."
Kit buried his face in Marin's shoulder, sighing softly. "But it's hard… I-I can't get the magic to do what I want it to do. I can't do anything more than like… super simple stuff that doesn't even really do anything."
(uh hi?)
"You'll get better with time, especially now that I can show you how to do things too." Marin patted Kit's head, rubbing the boy's back.
Kit nodded a bit. "I'll try my best to practice a lot so I get good at it… I'll probably have to choose a specialty, though."
"Everyone does eventually. We'll find what you're good at." Marin ran his fingers through Kit's hair, humming some.
"Mm… if you say so…" Kit curled up in Marin's arms, relaxing a little at the petting. "Hopefully the book will be helpful. It's pretty confusing right now…"
"We'll study it together, and it'll help it be less confusing." Marin continued with the petting, seeing how it helped Kit relax.
"Okay…" Kit leaned into Marin's hand a bit, yawning and trilling softly to himself. "Do you understand the book?"
"Most of it, yes," Marin said, nodding. "It's mostly just the basics of water magic and manipulation. I'm not an expert in it, but I can help."
"Okay… is water magic anything like fire magic?" He asked. "Or do you learn it kinda the same way, at least?"
"You do learn them in very similar ways," Marin confirmed. They hummed, offering a small smile.
Kit nodded, glancing down at his hands again. "Alright… I'm sure you could help, then. You're really good at the fire magic."
"Mhm," Marin agreed. They looked down as well, their hand moving to rest lightly on the boy's.
"Mm… do you know what time it is?" He asked, glancing around to try and figure out the time.
"It's getting close to evening," Marin said, remembering and taking a moment to calculate the time.
Kit nodded a bit. "We'll need to get moving tomorrow since we didn't travel at all today. Unless you're not wanting to."
"Yes, that's what I was planning on. I'm glad we had the rest day, though." Marin nodded some, settled down in their seat.
"Yeah, it was nice… what direction do you wanna go in the morning?" He asked curiously. "I should be able to lead you wherever."
"To the north east," Marin confirmed. They were intent to continue their one direction journey, after all. They'd continue on until they got to the corner of the world, and as far from the kingdom as possible.
"Sounds good to me. There's another town that direction, but we might not reach it in a day… we'll need to find some alternative shelter."
"I'm sure we'll be able to," Marin said. "If need be, I have a tent in my pack, though it isn't as good as a cave or a tree."
Kit nodded a bit. "We should be able to find somewhere to stay for the night. We'll just hope that it doesn't storm…"
"Right." Marin offered Kit a small sympathetic look, hugging the boy. "I'm sure it won't."
