She erased what she'd written. "Right. Any history of drugs?"
She erased what she'd written. "Right. Any history of drugs?"
"Uh, no. She wouldn't do that.", he said faithfully.
"Sorry, these questions are mandatory, I have to ask them," she said, making a pained expression.
"It's fine. Of course you have to ask that. Although she might have been drugged by the kidnappers." August wondered if there was a drug that could lose your memory.
"Mmmmhmmmm…" she hummed absently, jotting down notes.
"Did you notice her eyes?", he asked randomly.
The doctor looked up. "Her eyes?"
(What color are her eyes? I can't see the pinterest pin.)
"Her eyes aren't supposed to be grey! They changed color ever since I saw her at the bus stop."
(Blue-green)
"And that was this morning, yes?"
"Yes! Before getting kidnapped they were a blue-green." It scared August.
She narrowed her eyes and pressed her lips together. "That's… odd."
"Not just odd, scary!" He shivered. "It's such an unnatural color."
Dr. Vegran frowned. Her lips moved slowly but were void of words. "And you have no clue of her kidnappers' whereabouts?"
"No. Not even the police have tracked them down yet.", he said anxiously.
Dr. Vegran inhaled slowly. "It may take a long time… but I may be able to fix her."
"Fix her? You know what's wrong with her?" August didn't know wether to be afraid or relieved.
The doctor nodded. She took off her glasses and suddenly looked much younger and more tired. "Yes…"
"What is it?" He was dying to know. He looked over at Kate.
"It's the effects of a memory draining serum," the doctor said, walking over to Kate and looking down on her with remorse. "It specifically targets significant and personal memories, like friends, family, and significant others, but it leaves important and functional memories, like how to walk, speak, and swim. It's designed to wear down not only the person who is the victim, but the victims loved ones." Her voice was full of emotion.
"Can you give her back her memories?!" August filled with emotion. He needed Kate.
She closed her eyes and took a long breath. Her eyes opened, and she faced him. "I can try. As I said, it will take a while. There was one girl who already had this condition. Most of her memories were restored, but it took time, and not all of them had returned." Her face was etched with pain.
"Will she remember me?" There was a deep sadness in his eyes. He didn't meet eyes with the doctor out of fear that he'd cry.
"Chances are, she will since you were a very significant part of her life," she answered, biting the inside of her cheek to stay professional.
"Thank you. You don't know how good it is to hear that. How long until she will remember me?" Much of his anxiety vanished.
"There's no telling, but it should take at least a week to two weeks depending on how she reacts to the procedure." She inhaled shakily. Don't…
