Suddenly, Kate lunged out of her chair, wrapping her hands around the doctor's neck.
Dr. Vegran gasped and stumbled back abruptly.
Suddenly, Kate lunged out of her chair, wrapping her hands around the doctor's neck.
Dr. Vegran gasped and stumbled back abruptly.
"Get off of her!", he yelled, tear still dripping down his neck. He pried her hands off of the doctor and held Kate back. "Do something!" he yelled to Dr. Vegran.
(No, she's doing it to Doctor Vegran)
(I know. Did I do something wrong?)
(Wait, I read it wrong, sorry… XP My brain is tired, okay?)
"Get off of her!", he yelled, tear still dripping down his neck. He pried her hands off of the doctor and held Kate back. "Do something!" he yelled to Dr. Vegran.
Dr. Vegran caught her breath for a moment, then reached for the syringe.
Kate thrashed against August's grip and yelled "White!" again.
"Hurry!", he said, rushed. White? Is that a clue to what happened?
Dr. Vegran grabbed Kate's arm and injected more serum. Slowly, she became limp again. There were red marks around Dr. Vegran's throat. She was breathing heavily. "Thank you…" she said, her voice sounding tight and strange.
"Did she hurt you?" He was concerned for this stranger who had opened up to him.
She swallowed and tried to clear her voice. "No…" she said, testing her vocal cords. "I don't think so."
"She keeps saying white? Does she remember something about them? Is it PTSD? This could be a clue." August talked fast. There was a lot to say.
The doctor blinked and paled, making the marks on her throat stand out slightly more. "White was my maiden name," she murmured. "How would she know that?"
He was quiet for a moment. "I just thought… that she was talking about your coat. T-That's… that must mean there is more to this." He shivered.
"Clearly," she murmured, deep in thought. Her eyes returned to Kate. "This is strange…"
"Who do we talk to?" This was strange and it went beyond the two of them, Kate, and the other girl.
She pressed her lips together. "I'm the lead specialist in this department, especially after my daughter…" She paused, then picked up again. "The only people who are above me is the Hospital Directory Board, which doesn't spend any more than they have to on cases like these, since they are so few and far between…" She trailed off again.
"What about the police?", he asked. But he already knew the answer. They haven't caught anyone yet.
The doctor shook her head. "No, they won't help. Trust me, I've tried."
"What will?", he asked hopelessly.
"Time," she replied softly. "Time and patience."
"I have time and patience. Do your thing." Do you really have time and patience? How much longer can you take?
(Want to timeskip to maybe a couple weeks into the procedure?)
(That sounds good.)
Kate was getting slightly better every day. She'd begun to recall some of her favorite things.
Dr. Vegran left the room and walked out into the hall to talk with August. "She's improving," she informed him. "A lot."
"Does she remember me?", he asked impatiently. He was worn with the time he spent without her. She had kept him going. She stopped him from… stopping.
