"You sure?" Serna looked concerned, gently cupping Nix's cheek a moment.
"You sure?" Serna looked concerned, gently cupping Nix's cheek a moment.
Nix looked away. "W-Well, I was just… he spends a lot of time with Zachary and it doesn't seem like he needs me anymore and I don't really know what to do about it…"
"Oh, sweetie…" Serna moved to her knees, pulling Nix into a gentle hug.
Nix buried his face in Serna's shoulder and clung to her with a shaky sigh. "I-I just… I'm probably being stupid, but I don't want him to stop loving me…"
"Of course you're not being stupid, sweetie," Serna assured softly. She picked Nix up into her arms, standing. "It's so much sense that you don't want him to stop loving you."
Nix purred weakly as Serna tried to reassure him, but he still seemed uneasy. "I-I feel like he liked me better when I was just a cat…"
Serna shook her head just a bit.
"I think he loves you just the same," the goddess said softly. She had every intention of asking Cas about it when she went to get him and Zachary for dinner.
"But I can't help him the way I used to…" Nix rubbed at his eyes a bit. "H-He's got Zachary now, so he doesn't really need me…"
"Relationships change," Serna said after a moment. "But that doesn't mean Cas doesn't care about you anymore, sweetie. He still needs you, even if it isn't in the same way."
Nix looked away, not seeming entirely convinced. "I just… I-I wanna be helpful still, but I dunno how."
"I know," Serna said quietly. "We'll find something, okay? Something to help you feel better."
Nix nodded weakly. "I can't help him the same way I did before… it would be weird with me being a person now and with him having Zachary around all the time."
"Well… then, we'll just have to find a new way to help him, then." Serna lightly kissed Nix's head, moving towards Cas's room.
Nix turned his ears back a bit when Serna carried him towards Cas's room, still seeming nervous and uneasy. He didn't want Cas to be angry with him.
"It's gonna be okay," Serna promised, holding Nix close. She reached out to knock, Nix held in one arm.
Cas came to the door when Serna knocked, looking up at the goddess curiously. "Hello, Miss Serna. Do you need something?"
"Hey, Cas," Serna said softly. She looked at Nix in her arm, moving her hand to his back.
"There's something I think you and Nix need to talk over…"
"Hmm?" Cas looked between Serna and Nix, seeming confused and uneasy. "Is something wrong?" Nix cowered a bit and looked away.
Serna nodded a bit.
"Nix is really worried," the goddess explained softly. "He…" the woman looked to Nix, to see if he was ready.
Nix turned his ears back a bit, still unable to make eye contact. He huddled up more tightly in Serna's arms. "I-I feel like you don't… need me anymore…" He whispered weakly. Cas was obviously a bit surprised. "What? Of course I need you, Nix! What makes you think I don't?" "I… I-I just…" Nix stammered a bit, his throat tightening with tears.
"He thinks that because you have Zach, and he's not a cat anymore, that he couldn't help you," Serna said, carefully taking over when Nix couldn't continue. She knelt down, Nix held close to herself while now making sure Cas could reach him too.
"Of course you can still help me, Nix." Cas smiled weakly and gently touched Nix's head. "B-But I don't know how…" Nix whimpered. "I-I can't— h-help you the way I normally do— because it would be weird…" "Well, I dunno… um…"
"We'll find a way," Serna said softly, looking between both men.
Cas nodded a bit in agreement. "Yeah, of course. We don't want you feeling unwanted or anything, Nix." Nix nodded weakly and rubbed at his eyes a bit.
Serna kissed Nix's hea softly, rubbing his back.
"See?" she said softly to the man. "I promised you, he really does care."
