Halm looked back at Cas, nodding a little.
"Okay then," he said. He knew how much Cas had; he'd been the one to carry it all here after all. As they passed by the koi pond, the white and blue koi splashed at Cas.
"Kora," Halm berated.
Cas jumped and moved closer to Halm, seeming uneasy. "Wait… Kora?? Why is she a fish now??"
"That's how she normally is," Halm said. "Both of them can take on other forms depending on what they need to do."
Cas eyed the fish warily as he headed inside with Halm. "This place is so weird…"
Halm chuckled a little.
"Yes. I suppose it is." Halm let go of Cas's hand once they were inside, heading for the closet in the living room.
"What color of coat do you prefer?" He asked.
"I don't really care, to be honest…" Cas sighed, hugging himself tightly to preserve heat when Halm pulled away.
Halm looked over Cas for a moment, examining him, before opening the door, pulling out a plain tan coat. It looked very warm, the though.
"Here, see if this fits," he said, bringing it over to Cas.
Cas pulled on the coat, which was a little big on him and rather heavy from the thickness. "Not exactly practical, but warm, I guess."
"Would you prefer something more practical?" Halm asked. The coat did seem pretty big on Cas, but it was a little cute.
Cas shrugged. "I can handle it. And I'm freezing." He tugged the coat closed around himself and sighed.
"Okay then," Halm said. He looked at the clock, the only indication of time in this world. It was about 11:30.
"I think I'm going to get back to work for a bit before lunch. What would you like to do?"
"I'll just… um… I'll go with you. Dunno what I'll do around here and I don't want any more surprise visitors."
"Okay then," Halm said. He made his way to the door, opening it for Cas to go through.
Cas headed outside, still holding his large coat closed. He shivered a bit when he stepped out and stuck close to Halm.
Halm lightly put his hand on Cas's shoulder, making his way back to the plot he had been working. He carefully started again, making a new hole and putting a soul in it.
Cas sat beside Halm and silently watched him work, clearly both confused and intrigued.
Halm looked up at Cas, seeing how confused he was.
"Want me to explain?" He asked, smiling a little to show he didn't mind.
Cas nodded a bit, keeping his eyes on the souls. He shifted around a bit to be more comfortable.
"These are souls," Halm said softly. "I do this as the first step to get them ready for a new life."
"Oh… how does planting them do anything, though? Are they gonna make a soul tree or something?" Cas asked, confused.
"Not trees. See those flowers? That's what comes of this. The soil here is social- it helps severe the connection of the soul and the old body because of the water in it." Halm covered up the hole, moving on to the next.
Cas nodded a bit, still watching curiously from where he sat. He gently reached out one hand to touch the petals of a flower.
The deep purple flower petals were silky to the touch, delicate and soft. Halm glanced over, smiling.
"Just be careful," he said, "not to pull any of the petals off." He seemed to trust Cas touching the petals, which he didn't do with many people at all.
"Y-Yes, sir…" Cas quickly pulled his hand away and held his coat closed again, his heart pounding as he examined the flowers.
"You can still touch them," Halm corrected quickly. "Just be gentle. And you don't have to call me sir."
Cas nodded, but made no move to touch the flowers again. He still kept his eyes on them, however.
