Nick held the door open for Cas after checking there was no one inside. He glanced around a bit too, just to make sure.
Cas hated how loud his footsteps seemed, though they were actually being rather quiet. He was terrified of being caught.
Luckily no one saw them and Nick quickly closed the door to his quarters, sighing with relief. “We made it!”
"Mhmm… damn, that was nerve wracking." Cas flopped down on the bed with a sigh, staring at the ceiling. "How're you gonna tell Jane the plan?"
“Umm, I guess just tell her about our conversation at the lake? She’d understand.” I hope.
Cas nodded. "Should we wait till later or just like, call her in now?"
Nick shrugged. “What do you think we should do?” he asked, trying to think of which idea was better.
"Depends what time it is and if we could get her in here without anyone else noticing."
“Hmm…I could pretend that I was super bored and wanted to hang out. We do that sometimes,” he commented.
"Sure, if you want." Cas shrugged. "Whatever you need to do that isn't suspicious."
“Okay, well, that could work. But you’ll have to stay here while I go look for her so that no one sees you.”
Cas nodded tentatively and pulled Nix into his lap. "Go ahead. I'll… be fine."
“Okay.” Nick gave Cas a quick kiss on the cheek for leaving to look for Jane.
Cas felt his heart start pounding already, but Nix gently batted at his chin with one paw to distract him. He let Cas pet him and purred to relax him more.
After a few minutes, Nick and Jane came into the room. Jane glanced around before shutting the door, looking concerned, and Nick just went straight up to Cas and hugged him. “We’re back.”
Cas breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed a bit, hugging him back tightly. "Hey, Jane." He said tiredly. His hair was still a bit damp from swimming.
Jane noticed it and looked at them two of them in confusion. “So, Nick, why’d you want me to come here? And why do you both have wet hair?”
"We went swimming, but that's not important… we've got a plan that might stop the fighting." Cas ran his fingers through his hair. "I'll let Nick explain."
Nick sat down on the couch. “So we have a plan…” he began.
Jane got instantly suspicious. “What is it?”
“A marriage alliance,” Nick said, looking hopeful. Jane looked at the two boys for a long moment.
“How, exactly, do you two think you’re going to pull that off?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Nick said you were the smart one, so we were hoping you'd be able to help." Cas scratched behind Nix's ears as he spoke. "We're hoping for an outcome that doesn't include my father beating me within an inch of my life." He laughed weakly, forgetting that Jane didn't know about the abuse.
Jane’s face drained of color. “What? Are you sure he’d hurt you like that?”
Cas went pale as well. "Shit… um, well, I suppose now's as good a time as any to let you know why I'm actually here. And yes, I don't doubt he'd do something of that sort."
“What…do you mean?” Jane asked quietly, glancing back and forth between Nick and Cas. Nick bit his lip.
(also just a heads up i won’t be on much for the next couple of weeks so my replies will be pretty sporadic)
(Okay cool cool)
"I don't want to beat around the bush here, um…" Cas hesitated for a moment. "Basically my dad kinda abuses me and it got particularly bad and Nick found out and brought me here."
