Cas took a moment to regain himself, holding his arms out to try and steady himself in the water. "How… how is this supposed to help me?"
Cas took a moment to regain himself, holding his arms out to try and steady himself in the water. "How… how is this supposed to help me?"
Nick raised his eyebrows in confusion. “Me holding onto you or teaching you how to float?”
(gtg)
"Learning how to float." Cas looked up at Nick, suddenly aware of the fact that they were both half naked.
Nick didn’t seem to notice. “That way if you ever find yourself stuck in some sort of situation involving water, at least you can float,” he replied.
"Well, if I can only float but not swim, aren't I just delaying my inevitable death?" Cas rolled his eyes, holding his breath again.
“Then I’ll teach you how to swim too,” Nick answered earnestly. “The front stroke is simple enough.”
"Okay…" Cas clung to Nick when he exhaled again, knowing he'd start to sink. "How do you do it?"
“Well, first you go from floating to standing up in the water like I am, and then I’ll show you,” Nick said, excited to share his knowledge of swimming.
"Well, we gotta go further in, then, because I'm not tall enough to reach the bottom here." Cas stretched one foot down and couldn't feel the bottom of the pond. "You're taller than me."
“Okay,” Nick said with a nod, taking Cas’s hand and gently pulling him towards the more shallow water. The water here only went to his waist, so he figured it would be more than enough to keep Cas’s head above water.
The water reached to Cas's chest, so he was still mostly submerged in water. "Okay, now what?"
“I’ll demonstrate first and then you try,” he said. “So you have to basically lie down on your stomach and then move your arms around.” He showed Cas, doing a quick circle of swimming.
Cas seemed hesitant, but he stepped further into the water. "Will you stay close in case I fail miserably and start drowning?"
Nick nodded. “Of course. I won’t let you start drowning, even if you fail miserably,” he said, his expression warm and encouraging.
"Okay…" Cas held his breath and started trying to mimic Nick. "I'm sinkiNG! Shit! Nick help!" He panicked and started splashing as he tried to not drown.
Nick put his arms around Cas and swam to the edge of the lake, where the water was barely at their ankles. His heart pounded when Cas was freaking out.
Cas wrapped his legs around Nick's waist and clung to him, trembling. "I-I think that qualifies as failing miserably…"
“Maybe we should take a break from swimming,” Nick offered, feeling a bit bad he hadn’t managed to help. At least Cas was okay.
He nodded, making no attempt to move away from Nick for now. "I'm… I'm just gonna chill here a minute…"
Nick blushed a bit at Cas’s nearness, it hitting him now that they were both only wearing underwear. “Okay.” He smiled softly at Cas.
They stayed like this for a few minutes until Cas finally pulled away, looking up at Nick. "I'm sorry I'm such a wuss…"
“You’re not a wuss,” he disagreed, his brows furrowing. “I would be scared too if I were to be surrounded by water and not know how to swim.”
Cas shrugged. "Maybe, but I didn't have to flip out about it…"
“That doesn’t make you a wuss,” Nick said adamantly. “You just had a moment of weakness is all.”
