"I don't think so… either way, I don't plan on showing up." He said simply. "It would be a bit suspicious and I wouldn't be allowed to come back here."
"I don't think so… either way, I don't plan on showing up." He said simply. "It would be a bit suspicious and I wouldn't be allowed to come back here."
“Do you think I should go? It might look suspicious if we’re both gone, so I was thinking I should…” Nick said, furrowing his brows.
"If there is a meeting, I think you should go to avoid arousing suspicion." Cas shrugged. "I'll be okay… I've got Nix."
Nick nodded. “Okay. I’ll get away as soon as I can.”
He nodded as well. "I'll just curl up under the bed with him or something just in case someone comes in… can't risk being caught."
“Speaking of that meeting…it’s in a few minutes. I should probably get going…” he said reluctantly.
"Alright…" Cas sighed. "Bye, Nick." He curled up on the bed with Nix to wait.
Nick gave him a last smile, ran a hand through his hair, and left, going to the dining hall determined to bring something back for Cas.
Cas curled up tighter when the door closed, exhaling shakily. This is gonna be a long night…
Nick was not excited about the dinner, since Cas had been his conversation partner every night up until now. Once he arrived there, he noticed his father had taken the opportunity of Cas’s spot being vacant to put an insufferable princess that King Darius liked next to Nick. Awesome…
"Well, now that the meeting has started, I think it's important to address the disappearance of Prince Casper." Said Cas's father, folding his hands in front of him on the table. "If one of you has captured him to blackmail me, I assure you that you will regret it."
“I wonder where he is,” Insufferable Princess whispered to Nick. He couldn’t remember her name. He was a bit nervous at the mention of Cas, but he was a decent actor, so it was hard to tell.
"Anyone want to speak up? My search parties can't find him, which means he's likely being hidden in a castle. The party members can enter just about any building they please, but not castles other than our own."
Nick glanced at the girl next to him to see if she had anything to say about that. She did not, surprisingly. He looked back at Cas’s dad. He wasn’t going to lie, the man terrified him.
He seemed furious. He didn't necessarily care about Cas, but that his rival kingdoms might be trying to cripple him. Given how volatile he was, he could quite literally start a massive war involving all the kingdoms if Cas wasn't found soon.
Nick prayed the dinner to end quickly, so he could leave and get back to Cas, and he wasn’t the religious type. He hoped that one of the gods would hear his prayer.
Another king told Cas's father to relax, and that they'd help him find Cas, which seemed to at least temporarily quiet him. He was eerily silent through the rest of the meeting, though.
At the end of the meeting, Nick made sure that he didn’t look as if he were hurrying off, taking as much time as he would let himself talking to Jane and listening to Insufferable Princess as he stealthily slipped food into his pockets. Finally, he escaped the meeting, and walked into his room.
Cas was curled up under the bed as promised, and seemed to be trembling slightly. Nix poked his head out to show where Cas was before cuddling against the anxious boy again.
“Cas!” Nick exclaimed. “I’m back! And I brought food!” He took some rolls and cheese out of his pockets.
Cas dragged himself out from under the bed after a second or two, running his fingers through his messy hair. "Cool…"
“I’m so glad to see you! I thought that meeting would never end!” Nick exclaimed, grinning.
He nodded and stood up with slightly weak knees. "How was my dad?"
Nick winced. “He, ah, he was pretty angry,” he admitted. “After his initial outburst he was silent all throughout dinner.”
"Oh god…" Cas seemed much more anxious now. "Silence is bad. That means he's planning something, and it's not a tea party."
