Silas gave something that might have resembled a small smile had it not been on his face.
"You are dismissed, he said. "Meet me here, tomorrow. Eight. Not a second later. Or you will regret it."
The war could wait for a little while—just long enough to ensure the succession and to crown a new king, loath as Chi was to think of such things. After all, they both needed to be home for the passing of the crown.
And Chi needed to see his little brother.
We were too lost in the momentum to pull apart. The music floated around us, shrouding us entirely, taking us away from reality. I felt myself grinning broadly as I was twirled away from Emory, and back in again. Our faces were millimetres apart from each other, our eyes fixed on one another as he held onto my waist and dipped me down to the ground.
Emmy dropped her face into her hands with a groan that sounded more like a harsh chuckle. I had to tear my eyes away from the girl on stage to glance at my Aunt. To say it was painful was an understatement. "What–?"
"Cassia's not wearing shoes. Again."
