Jesus didn't say anything about being gay, the only time it was mentioned was in Leviticus which was negated by Jesus dying on the cross. So if you say that being gay is a sin, you're saying that Jesus's death accomplished nothing, which is fully inaccurate.

I'm going to add to the drama and probably make some Christians angry

Being gay is not a sin. A lot of people who say it is are just using it as an excuse to cover up their irrational disgust of gay people. (I'm not saying all people are like that, just to be clear)

Yeah, it's literally not a sin at all. King David was bi, read the passages about him and Jonathan. Jesus never had anyone at all he was into. Jesus also says that above all else, you are to love your neighbors, and not look down on love.

@SaltyLasagna

Another thing:

They bible is old as fuck and a LOT of things were probably changed and mistranslated. Unfortunately we don't have God himself to clear up any misunderstandings right now, so the bible is kind of an iffy thing to follow strictly.

@_sleeby_rat_

Exactly. The Catholic Church specifically is famous for misconstruing bits of the Bible to fit their own purposes, mainly to manipulate the public into keeping its power and exercising its power as an ultimate authority “in the name of god” through divine right of kings, something they started and Protestants kept, still seem in some forms today

i dont get it

@Moxie group

And also with that logic eating shellfish is a sin, wearing clothing with mixed fabrics is a sin, planting two different kinds of seed in the same field is a sin, cutting your hair at the sides or clipping off the edges of your beard is a sin.

@SaltyLasagna

There are only a few teachings of the bible that I follow, or at least try to follow, and they all revolve around how I treat others (Which is always with respect and kindness). I don't follow any teachings about what my lifestyle should be like because it's way too old fashioned and anything could've been mistranslated.

God told Moses a bunch of laws the Isrealites had to follow in order to get into heaven. If they broke any of these laws, they had to sacrafice an animal. When Jesus died on the cross, these laws no longer mattered because Jesus died for our sins. One of these was apparently "man lying with another man". Since Jesus died however, we no longer have to follow them and saying we still do is disrespectful

Exactly. Which makes me 99% certain that you, Ella, have sinned. But I'm going to make the assumption that you don't view the mixed clothing sin as important and will disregard it because it's too old fashioned. Correct me if I'm wrong. Tell me you view that sin as of the same importance and you will never again wear mixed fabrics.

@_sleeby_rat_

I'm fully aware that my opinion could be wrong, but unless God himself comes and tells me, I'm sticking with it.

Lmao ignorant much

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Well Nutella summed it up pretty well. I think it's wrong and a perversion of what is right. However I will not think less of you because of it. (Actually when I entered the forums I did so with the intent of learning more of lgbt peeps in order to expand my knowledge and view them as people instead of a group, which has been wildly successful. I also have made quite a few friendly relationships with gay etc people here, most notably Eris, along with Shuri.) I do not think you should respect the beliefs I hold. Though I do think you should respect my right to have such beliefs. To sum up, I do not hate anyone and am open to friendship with someone no matter what they believe. (Hey, it's what Jesus would do.)
Also. I am not homophobic. Pretty much no one is. Because that is a stupid word. Technically it means "fear of the same" which besides not making much sense, has nothing to do with being gay etc.
Now if it is taken to mean haters of lgbt people that is also incorrect. Most people who disagree with such things bear no hatred towards you.
If you take it in the way that people who disagree with such things fear such things, besides being incorrect in the sense of language, you are still mostly incorrect as rather few people fear such things. (Though there are some.) So it is a misrepresentation to use that word.

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination. (Leviticus 18:22)

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)

These are the quotes in question just in case anyone was wondering the wording. Please wait a moment for me to destroy the fuck out of them

Just because Jesus died for our sins doesn't mean we should continue committing them, that's insane and quite insulting in my opinion. We may not have to sacrifice living creatures in his name anymore but that doesn't mean we can go around murdering three-year-olds with chainsaws and expect God to be like "oh, it's okay, I died and came back to life so, therefore, that's not an evil thing to do anymore. Straight to heaven you go!" without us having to feel truly sorry or do some sort of penance first.

@_sleeby_rat_

doesn’t change my view through experience. If your family is threatening physical harm for being gay? Yeah, that’s hate. I’ll probably never be able to right the genetic inconsistencies between my brain chemistry and the way my body turned out because of homophobia and hatred. So excuse me for not liking people who want to deny me basic rights and dehumanize me

@SaltyLasagna

Dom, that's one of the most ignorant things I've ever seen you say. The only thing I agree with is the fact that you have a right to have your own beliefs, but that I do not have to respect them.
Just because homophobia has the word phobia in it, doesn't mean it's a fear of gay people. Words can evolve. It happens in all languages.
I'm going to say this once.
People hate gay people, and if you disagree, you are extremely ignorant and blind.
Do yourself a favor and read up on LGBT violence in the world. People get assaulted. Raped. Killed. Don't try to tell me hatred toward gay people doesn't exist because I've experienced it. Take it from a bisexual person who's been called nasty words, attacked, and threatened.

@Althalosian-is-the-father book

Well, I think that’s a little bit sad, and I wholeheartedly disagree, but I’ll respect your opinion as long as you respect me? -a gay

Well thank you. I attempt to judge people based off their character and not the things I consider sins as I realize that others do not share my views. So I will not think any less of you because of your affiliation with things I disagree with. In fact, from a nonreligious perspective, I understand and respect what they are trying to do as spreading love and acceptance.

@SaltyLasagna

:P Dom I'm not gay. I'm bisexual.

so is shuri, but I've noticed that some people view anything that's not straight as gay. Yesterday me and my dad got in an argument bc he said "there's only gay and normal, nothing else"

He's aware, and we're both against that violence. I think what he meant was the word 'homophobic' is really stupid because no one's afraid of LGBT people. They're hateful towards them, but not afraid.

Yeah I know. But it takes a while to type it all out so I don't.

Read my fucking response before you open your mouth.

I find it ironic that you can link a youtube video but you can’t type out the word “bisexual”
Sorry I know that’s not helpful at all, but it’s just an observation
