She reached over and playfully tweaked his cheek. "So dramatic."
She reached over and playfully tweaked his cheek. "So dramatic."
Finally he relented, turning around with a smile.
She smiled, "There he is," and leaned over to give him a quick kiss.
He moved closer to meet her in the middle, pulling back after a few moments.
She ruffled his hair as well with a cheeky smile. "I'll be back in a jiffy."
He took the opportunity to drop onto the couch gracelessly, spreading his arms and legs out as far as they go. "I'll be waiting for you"
She chuckled and raced after the twins, yelling "I'm coming for you!" Loud giggles and playful squeals soon followed as she easily caught up to them in the hall and pulled them into her arms, carrying them the rest of the way to the Vanguard's room where they got ready for fights.
He slipped his arms under his head and sighed, closing his eyes and relaxing. Like, every muscle seemed to loosen and release all of its tension type of relaxation.
In a few minutes, Tessa came back kid-free and looking just a little stressed. She rubbed at her arms with a distant look on her face.
Her footsteps in the empty cafeteria alerted him of her presence, and he frowned when they made eye contact from across they room. "Is everything alright?"
She waved him off. "Just had my ichor removed, that's all. Feels weird."
"If that why Cin wanted you?" He sat up, making space for her to sit.
She flopped onto the couch, heaving a sigh. "Yes and no. She got some inside information on the first round of the Games and wanted to let me know. And the headmaster came in to remove all of our ichor and to tell us our results." She tapped his leg lightly with a smile. "Congrats–you passed."
"Well, duh, I put on the best show. Nothing like the most deadly weapon in the world to really get people's blood going," he said with a grin.
She chuckled. "Lots of people are betting on you being one of the top players." She winked at him. "Myself included."
"Why? I'm not that good, especially when there's a literal demi-god out there."
She snorted. "This is a school for demigods." She turned her attention fully on him. "But it's also because you're an interesting wildcard. No one knows what you're capable of and are afraid of finding out the hard way. We may be training to be war heroes and soldiers, but most are just scaredy cats when it comes to the unknown. You put on a good show, and people want to see more of you."
"Voted most likely to get his ass kicked in entertaining fashion, huh?" He shrugged. "I'll take it, I guess."
She rolled her eyes. "That's not what I meant, dipshit. The more people who bet on your success, the more likely it will be for your sponsor to put you back in the Games should you be eliminated. A second chance. As much as this is a test of our abilities, it's entertainment for the people as well."
"Shit, two chances to get my ass kicked? Score!" He gave her a playful grin/
She rolled her eyes again, but her lips tugged up at the corners. "Ass." Hmm, I need a nickname for him. I have one for everyone else.
"You call me very abusive names. It's starting to affect my mental health."
She shrugged. "Sorry, but I have yet to find a nickname for you. I have one for the majority of my friends, but you've stumped me."
"Probably 'cause you already call me by my nickname, silly." He poked her nose again.
She scrunched up her nose and batted his hand away again. "It's your name to me, so therefore you need a nickname that only I call you by." Maybe an Italian pet name?
