"I feel like shit," he admitted. "And how was it impressive? I was nearly killed by a skinwalker."
"I feel like shit," he admitted. "And how was it impressive? I was nearly killed by a skinwalker."
She snorted. "Skinwalkers are cowards. They pretend to be the big fish by putting on a fake identity, but as soon as a bigger fish confronts them, they run away with their tails tucked between their legs." She nodded respectfully at Runner. "And you handled it well before it got out of hand. It barely got a single shot off before it wet itself."
"Hellfire tends to do that to people," he said with a shrug.
She smirked. "Indeed it does." She nodded at Tessa. "Good luck and fight well. I want to see the Vanguard in the finals."
Tessa flashed a toothy grin. "Not a problem."
"When will the other fights start, anyways?"
Zia turned to Runner. "Once qualifications are over, those that met the judges' standards will be called down to start the first round." Her lion's tail swung from side to side. "Other than that, I do not know."
He nodded. "Alright. Just wanted to know how long I had before I got my ass whooped."
Zia snickered and padded away with a wave, heading back out of the cafeteria.
Tessa dug back into her cake, whining when she dropped some crumbs. "Zia's the leader of the Jade Ravens, a newer and similar group to mine in its diversity. If you couldn't tell by the name, everyone in her group can fly." She informed Runner while cleaning up her mess.
"Do all of them look at you like you're their next meal?"
She chuckled. "It's the War Games. We're all enemies." She tilted her head and looked at the doors Zia left through. "But she's from Khogar, the Savage Realm, so she's more prone to looking like that on any day."
"Watch me pull, like, Cin or someone for my first round. It feels like that's the way today's going."
She tilted her head again, studying him. "I have a feeling the first round's gonna be a mass elimination round. Every man for himself sort of deal."
He groaned, leaning back into his seat. "I just got a bad feeling. I don't know why."
"You participated in the qualifications–you can back out anytime," she reminded him.
"I told you I'd do it, so I will." His voice sounded firm, but his eyes were all but.
She leveled a look on him. "Don't do it just because you said you would. You shouldn't do something if you don't want to."
"I just…." He rubbed the right side of his face. "I don't wanna let Tega out again."
She moved her cake back onto the table and sat up, intertwining her fingers in his. She wasn't good at comforting others–that was never her job–so she just held his hand in an attempt of silent comfort.
"What do you think?" he asked.
She pursed her lips. "I think you should go with your gut." Vague, yes, but she's always gone with her gut, and it has yet to fail her.
He chewed on the inside of his lip, thinking heavily.
She didn't rush him, just continued to sit silently and wait. Oh, how she hated being rushed to make a decision.
He took a breath in, then out. "I'll do it."
She nodded and squeezed his hand in reassurance. "I'll have your back," she promised.
He smiled lightly in response. "I love you."
