It is said that at the beginning of the world there was nothing save for Eirene, the very first Guardian and the leader of all the other Guardians. Upon Eirene's birth, she created the other eighteen Guardians and their talismans and Legatuses, including her own. She then led them in creating various facets of Eridya, such as landmasses, oceans, forests, mountains, and even the skies and the weather, as well as the creatures and humans that would populate it – including any creature not created by the other Guardians, such as wyverns. That done, she created the Tree of Life to help govern all life in Eridya, then bade the Guardians to disperse across the world before leaving to her own home, the Garden of Eden.
From her home, she watched over the world along with the other Guardians. As their creator and leader, she was held in tremendous respect by all humans and animals alike – including the other Guardians – as they collaborated to help Eridya's civilization flourish.
However, trouble arose when the people of Valya unveiled a creation meant to rival Eirene herself – an enormous black dragon named Dovrak. When they lost control of their creation, who began rampaging across Eridya and wounded the Tree of Life in the process, Eirene rallied the Guardians and humans all across the world to drive back the threat in what became the Nightbringer War. Once the war ended, she worked with Tezal to heal the Tree, allowing those impacted by its injury to recover.
As punishment for their actions, Eirene sunk the entirety of Valya deep under the sea, scattering its inhabitants across the rest of the world. An enormous vault was then built in Neyri, in which all knowledge of blood magic – along with Valya's Guardians Annora, Mirjana, and Zoran, as well as their talismans and Legatuses – were sealed. The vault was locked by a mural of five of Eridya's patron Guardians with explicit instructions never to be opened by anyone – and thus became known as the Forbidden Vault. The keys to the vault lie in five crown jewels – one for each of Eridya's remaining continents. Furthermore, all traces of Valya, including their Guardians, were wiped entirely from Eridya's history as if it had never existed, bringing the total number of Guardians to sixteen. As such, life in Eridya returned to normal and gradually flourished once again.
500 years later, Eirene foresaw a prophecy in which the Duskwing Syndicates managed to revive Dovrak and attempted another invasion upon Eridya and the Tree of Life, as well as a deeply unsettling premonition of the remaining Guardians fracturing. Fearing what it meant for the world, Eirene called the Guardians together for a Grand Council to discuss the matter. After quite some back and forth, they came to the consensus that they should seek out the aid of Champions in the dual hope that the Champions' presence would not only keep the Guardians together but also strengthen their defenses against the Duskwing Syndicates. They decided to search among young adults between 18-23 years old, as children would be unable to harness the Guardians' power.
Her request for a Champion was met by a young woman who wielded the Cosmos Blossom and worked alongside Eirene as the very first Champion. All of Eridya were inspired by their teamwork and courage, leading to optimistic hope of closer ties between Guardians and humans as the other Guardians sought out Champions of their own.
However, Eirene's vision ultimately came to pass as Uriah, Ashika, Aethon, Duman, and Sen turned against the other Guardians and sided with the Duskwing Syndicates. Fearing for the safety of the Tree of Life, she sent Turin, Brysenne, Jhin, Kasha, and Nagi to guard it while she and the others attempted to stave off the invading Duskwing Syndicates. She led the remaining Guardians and their Champions to the group when Brysenne howled for help, rallying everyone to protect the Tree and drive off the Duskwing Syndicates and Rogues. Ultimately they proved victorious, with Eirene imprisoning the latter for their crimes.
After the war ended, she helped found the Dawnwing Organizations along with the Survivors, offering her talisman to be sealed away for protection. That done, she returned to the Garden of Eden to roam and watch over Eridya once more.
Fifteen years before the present day, word spread that Dovrak and the Duskwing Syndicates had returned, led by the Rogues who had broken out of their prison. Noting this threat, Eirene reluctantly realized that the remaining Guardians had no choice but to bond with Champions if they have any hope of pushing back the invaders, especially as they were also weakened significantly from the prolonged separation from their talismans. Gathering the remaining Guardians together, Eirene ordered them to seek out Champions once more. Despite this, Eirene herself did not seek out a Champion, instead continuing to watch over Eridya from afar.
