Valya was once a continent in far northern Eridya, separated from the other continents by a sea. It was known as the largest and most populous continent in all of Eridya. However, the Valyans were regarded with suspicion as Guardian and human alike practiced blood magic, a forbidden art.
1000 years ago, the Valyans created Dovrak as a clone of Eirene with the intention to surpass her; however, the former went out of control, threatening all of Eridya and initiating the Nightbringer War, in which the Valyans and their Guardians ironically worked with the rest of Eridya to stop their own creation from destroying the world.
As punishment for their actions, Eirene sunk the entirety of Valya deep under the sea, scattering its inhabitants across the rest of the world. An enormous vault was then built in Neyri, in which all knowledge of blood magic – along with Annora, Mirjana, and Zoran, as well as their talismans and Legatuses – were sealed. The vault was locked by a mural of Eridya's remaining patron Guardians with explicit instructions never to be opened by anyone – and thus became known as the Forbidden Vault. The keys to the vault lie in five crown jewels – one for each of Eridya's remaining continents. Furthermore, all traces of Valya, including their Guardians, were wiped entirely from Eridya's history as if it had never existed, bringing the total number of Guardians to sixteen.
This event became known as The Purge as it wiped all but 10% of Valya's population – mainly those who managed to flee their continent before it was sunk. Though many of survivors accepted their punishment and peacefully assimilated into the rest of Eridya, there were some who craved vengeance for their fallen brethren and continent. Those Valyans renamed themselves the Pactless and went into hiding to avoid detection and persecution, keeping their knowledge of blood magic alive and passing it down to their descendants. Thus they were nearly all but forgotten about until they finally emerged after Dovrak's defeat as the Pactless – with the goal to revive their Guardians and get their homeland back, as well as seeking revenge for having their home and history erased from existence.
