Jasper grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico among a cult community worshiping a "god" of the Depths. While he did grow up normally during times in school, his Sunday "churches" were a time of worship, sacrifice and offering to it in hopes of something in exchange, or even an appearance from their god. While Jasper didn't want to take any part of it, he was forced to by his community. He was the black sheep of the herd. Much of the time he took their teachings for his own agenda, he was rebellious and often punished for it - the most severe one burning his hands in unholy water for being reckless with his magic.

While he excelled in his studies among the cult, it was not at all the same with school. He eventually dropped out before graduating high school, and with no place to go all he had was his community. Eventually the sacrifices and offering become increasingly extreme - offering people to grab their god's attention. Jasper grew more and more resentful of them, and wanted this madness so badly to stop. He eventually heard a whisper... Instructing him on what to do - He was easily persuaded but didn't understand why, he felt like he was forced to trust this whisper in the dark. At first they were petty, almost childish instructions like theft or vandalism, then slandering of his superiors... but things only began to escalate and this voice convinced Jasper that he can stop all this madness by killing them all himself, no more innocent lives lost, no more carnage.

He finally obliged, and during one of their Sunday's, he placed an incantation to trap everybody inside. He couldn't stop himself from following these orders, and began a killing spree on the only family he knew. While he was not as experienced as his higher-ups, he felted empowered and almost "blessed" to overcome them. With blood on his hands he exhaustively knelt on the altar and their "god" finally appeared before him, bearing the same voice as the whispers he had heard himself. It was no god but powerful demon that charmed Jasper to listen to everything it had said. As a reward for being its best follower, it showed him his very own death, before disappearing and disbanding the cult.

Full of regret and remorse, Jasper tended to whatever survivors he could find -- among them, they had called him Judas for his betrayal, having their very own god plot against them. Since he knew he couldn't convince them that it had tricked them all, all along, he simply left Santa Fe. He began his search for "it" again, wanting answers behind his death and how to stop it - and developed a faith in Catholicism in hopes of redeeming himself.

• The god of the Depths his cult worshipped was Leviathan, one of the seven princes of hell. The demon that predicted his death was an agent of Leviathan, and so Judas' death by drowning was "appropriate"


• Although he is unaware of it, he has Leviathan's favor as his 'champion', and can call upon his power if he wished to do so... If he knew how to do so
