Ice was one of Diana Hawthorne's many kids, stolen away from his family in Bellmore unusually young. As the 13th child of the family he was to be sacrificed to their god, and knowing that this was the intention Diana had been keeping an eye on the family. So when Ice was born he was taken within days while the ritual was still being set up and Diana became the only mother the tabaxi ever knew, the other nobles passing through his siblings with ties as strong as blood.
As he aged it became clear Ice had a knack for the arcane so Diana set him down the road of studying magic with some of the best tutors she could find. Ice studied hard and became quite the accomplished wizard, and when he left Diana's care he headed for Myrin where he would still have access to a section of The Binder's Archive to continue his studies but be far enough away from Bellmore to be safe from his family.
It was here that Ice fell in love with another tabaxi, an apprentice at the Archive named Fate. The two were inseparable from the start, a romance that blossomed over time while things were peaceful for the pair. Diana never told Ice about his family, believing that he was truly safe from them; she was wrong.
Ice's family tracked him down while he was away from the Archive with Fate on a field mission. They killed the younger tabaxi in front of Ice before kidnapping him to sacrifice him for the ritual as planned at the time of his birth, but the skills he'd been taught allowed him to escape before that could happen. Ice fled, finding solace in the only place he could - The Nightfall Nest. It was the only place he felt safe that if his family found him they could not take him again.
It was here The Sovereign Galen found him, and offered him the safety he really needed. There Ice was told his true history and introduced him to his half-siblings, and even promised that he could bring Fate back as long as Ice served him faithfully. That was enough to win Ice over, the tabaxi pledging his service to the Sovereign Galen and promising that he would do as he was told so he could get Fate back someday.
When Zaela took up the Sovereign's mantle she knew that the people that had served under her predecessor could not get away with what they had done but she always made sure her punishments were fair. She spoke to Fate and made sure the woman wanted to come back, and when she pleaded to be reunited with the love of her life Zaela decided Ice's punishment would double as a challenge - she had spent time spiritually among the beasts as part of her upbringing and she knew how rough that could be. Ice and Fate spent years like that, overcoming all the hardships together and growing their bond ever stronger.
When they were finished Ice and Fate wasted no time in getting married, staying in Tavnoin to help serve Zaela however she needed with the skills they had knowing that they owed her the life they had together.
