Phyra doesn't remember her parents, only the roar of the crowd and being trained from the day she could walk to fight in The Starfall Arena. She had her first battle at thirteen, a battle she barely survived, and after that her life was nothing but fighting. A spectacle, one of the elusive snake-people fighting in the arena, and people paid good money to see her fight.

But that life was never one Phyra wanted. When she turned twenty she asked to be set free, having made more than enough to cover the cost the arena paid to buy her and cover her training and upkeep over the years. But the arena refused, and Phyra spiraled. She started fighting recklessly, taking unnecessary risks and getting hurt in ways that made the next fight harder.

Knowing it wouldn't do to have their star die in the ring, the arena made a deal to sell her out to The Sovereign Galen as a personal guard. This worked, as the entity knew she had several half-siblings in the world and was intent on gathering them. To what end no one knew, but Phyra was the first and as the others trickled in she became almost like a leader to the group even though she wasn't the oldest of them.

Her time in the arena sucked, and living as a guard to the Sovereign Galen wasn't much better, but at least she found family and she had more freedom than she did as a slave to the arena. Then Zaela took up the mantle of Sovereign and Phyra and her kin ended up punished for what they had done while serving under her predecessor. Phyra didn't expect to be freed, but she didn't expect Zaela to hold on to her contract and force her to live out every aspect of it. Phyra is in a worse hell than she was before, now forced to help Zaela every day with any tasks she has and basically now just a glorified secretary instead of the warrior she is. It's humiliating, but she can't do anything about it.
