Ash was born to parents in Oakheart, a trading town along the border of the dwarven and merfolk territories, and she wasn't alone. Her twin brother, Cloud, was born just a few minutes later and growing up the two were inseparable. Ash had a knack for making jewelry and Cloud loved adventure, and they would often venture off together as children much to the dismay of their mother; their father was never in the picture, and neither was ever able to get their mother to say who he was.

Still live was relatively idyllic, even well into their teen years. Cloud learned to fight and Ash honed her skills, selling what she could at the market along the main road or trading for things she could use to make other pieces. Sometimes she'd go out with Cloud and he would protect her while she gathered what she needed, and they were never happier than when they were together as the bond between twins bound them tighter than others.

Then one day guards from Halberton were passing through - they rarely ever came out to such a boarder town unless they had to, but they were chasing a dangerous creature that had been ravaging the area. Cloud went with them to help, and in slaying the creature found a new sense of purpose for himself. He begged Ash to come with him to Halberton where she could easily ply her trade and maybe even make more of a name for herself while he trained with the city guard, but Ash couldn't leave their mother behind so she stayed in Oakheart.

As the years passed Cloud trained, but quickly found that being part of the guard was boring and eventually he left to seek more grand adventures. Through it all he wrote to Ash often, visited when he could, and always knew that he was breaking her heart by being separated from her. Then one day, he simply stopped writing. Ash brushed it off as him being busy, but when months passed without word she knew something was wrong. Despite her mother's pleas to stay so she didn't lose another child Ash knew she had to go and try to find her brother.

She traveled to Tavnoin and sought the aid of The Sovereign Galen and his mystics, knowing that if anyone could tell her where her brother was it was them. Unfortunately the mystics could not get a read on Cloud's location, but they linked Ash to several others already in service to the Sovereign Galen - half siblings, all of them sharing the same father. The Sovereign Galen encouraged her to stay and get to know her kin, and use them to help find her brother so he too could be brought into the fold.

The reality, however, was that the Sovereign Galen knew exactly where Cloud was - in the Blackport Holding Facility. Ash was too valuable, though, and as long as she was searching for her brother she would serve him so he kept that from her.

When Zaela became Sovereign she knew one of the first things she had to do was deal with those the Sovereign Galen had misled or were blackmailing, and that included all the half siblings. Despite doing what she did only out of desperation Zaela knew Ash had to pay for the people she'd killed and the wrongs that she had done. That punishment, however, was to serve a year in isolation with her brother; they were set up and given enough supplies to survive and then left for a year with just one another, time Ash was able to take to catch Cloud up on what had happened and help him acclimate so going out into the world wouldn't be such a shock.

Both siblings have remained in Tavnoin since, Cloud joining the city guard and Ash returning to her work in jewelry making, donating much of her profits to helping rebuild the city and similar projects as another form of repenting for what she did.
