Luke stared intently into the blackness. "I don't hear anything. Might as well try it."
Luke stared intently into the blackness. "I don't hear anything. Might as well try it."
Nathan walked into it and waved Luke after him. The stairs creaked ominously beneath him with every step, and he cringed at the loud noise in the still hallway.
They went on for just long enough to make you nervous, then ended abruptly at a concrete floor. This room seemed to be quite large. Luke found a light switch near the door and flicked it.
"Wow," he said.
This room was filled with glass cases of varying size and shape. In the cases were strange and colorful things: pelts, feathers, skeletons, artifacts, disembodied glowing lights, and more. It was quite obviously a trophy room. The prizes were stacked together almost haphazardly, as if no one had bothered to organize them yet. Right at the end of the room, taking up an entire wall, was a pair of wings. They looked like they were made of solid gold, but the feathers, when they drew closer, proved to be as soft as those of a dove. There was no glass around them, and they were slightly dusty.
(After this I gotta go, see you tomorrow hopefully)
(k bye just gonna put this here anyway)
Nathan looked out into the bright room with distaste. "The spoils of war," he spat. He recognized some trophies as parts of animals, some objects stolen from priceless places. "Blake is one hell of a hoarder." His gaze fell onto the wings at the back of the room, and bile rose up in his throat.
The wings of a God, gain you access to where angels trod. "He's planning something. A spell."
"Well, ain't that just a bouquet of daisies," Luke drawled. "On top of everything else, our fun-loving divine friend practices voodoo." He peered at the metal plaque below the wings. "'A gift'", he read aloud. "Weird kinda gift, if you ask me."
Nathan looked back at the wings. Who would give away such a priceless thing?
"Let's find Maddie and Crash. That's a priority. We can check all this stuff out later."
"You're not going to find them like this."
It was a new voice, from the stairs. There was a girl standing there, watching you. Her messy dark hair half-hid her face.
"Well damn." Nathan muttered. He turned to her. "Who are you?"
She leaned against the wall. "Esme. You must be the two humans that gave the others so much trouble at first. How'd you end up in this lonely corner of the house?"
She knew about Maddie and Crash. "We were looking for Blake?" he attempted.
(i cant help myself but think of twilight)
(Oh no, what for? I haven't read it)
"You must be pretty stupid to be looking for him. I'd go the other way if I were you."
Luke folded his arms. "Well, if you care so much about our health, why don't you tell us the way to our friends so we can leave? We ain't going without them."
Esme gave him an unimpressed look. "Lemme ask you something. Why do you care about them so much?"
(Esme is the name of the main character's mother. And don't read it it's a complete waste of time)
"They're good people, and our friends. They don't deserve what Blake wants to do to them."
(Ah, dang it. Oh well, you can't copyright names luckily)
"Is that it? Nobody deserves the stuff that happens to them in life. Why try to shelter them?"
"Listen," Luke said, a dangerous undertone in his voice. "I'm no stranger to that cosmic law. And I'm willing to bet that Nate isn't either. But I don't want to hear whatever you tell yourself so you can work for Blake and still sleep easy at night."
"I don't work for Blake," Esme said. "I just show up to check in once in a while. Which is why I haven't turned you in yet. I'm not interested in Blake's plans."
"Hallelujah," Nathan snapped. "Run along and check, then."
"Sure." Esme shrugged. "Whatever. You can wander around down here until you die, if you want. There's no way you'll find your 'friends' without help, not if Blake doesn't want you to. But who knows, maybe two hotshots like you can think of something." She turned and started up the stairs.
Luke stared after her. "Wait. Let's say we asked you for help. What exactly do you want?"
She paused. "You're not the only ones searching for someone."
Nathan looked up at that. He could just about here the truth in her voice. "Who're you here for?"
She turned back around. "A girl. She's about my age, dark skin, short curly hair, green and gold eyes. Her name's Celina. I lost track of her three weeks ago." Esme did a good job of keeping her face blank, but her voice wavered ever-so-slightly as she finished. "I like to stay in touch with people that actually seem to care. Right now, she's pretty much the only one."
(gotta go for a bit, seeya later. Unless you've gone to bed, in which case I'll see you tomorrow)
(pokes head in while wearing a rubber unicorn mask to see if anyone's there)
(looks up from book why do I talk to you?)
(lol, I don't know, man, but I'm glad you do XD)
(XD. Should we go to Maddie, or what? She could wander round and find Luke and Nate by mistake or something, I don’t know.)
(Hmmm. Maybe she shouldn't find the boys quite yet, but perhaps she could decide that she's had enough and goes looking for them? And encounter trouble along the way? Then when Amber gets back we'll wrap up the scene with the boys right quick, and Esme can lead them to Maddie. Sound fair?)
(hi I'm back)
(Oh! Well, I'll let you guys take a vote, then. Who wants to go first?)
