Bucky held Steve's hand as they walked, heading down towards the beach. He smiled faintly as they walked, letting out a slow breath.
Bucky held Steve's hand as they walked, heading down towards the beach. He smiled faintly as they walked, letting out a slow breath.
"It's nice out," Steve observed, smiling at how lucky he felt to be with him on an evening like this, where the quiet laughing and fanfare behind them was mixed with the sound of waves crashing; where the sky was pushing away its final sunset hues as the night crept in.
Bucky nodded. "It definitely is." He replied softly, taking a deep breath as he walked with Steve.
"Hmm," Steve sighed, glancing up at the sky and the flickering hint of stars above as he pondered something. "Tell me if I'm getting ahead of myself but…you think we should tell the others?" He softly asked, smiling and gently swinging their hands, "'Bout us."
Bucky blinked, thinking about that. "Oh. I…I don't know. It's up to you, I guess. You've…known them longer than I have, and all."
Steve nodded thoughtfully, letting out a soft breath. He never could've imagined what it might be like to tell a group of friends about a man he was involved with. "I mean…I have, but you should still have a say," He said with a faint smile, "It's still pretty new, and…I wanna know what you think."
He shrugged his shoulders a little bit. "I…" he looked down at the sand for a moment. "I don't know." he replied slowly, looking at Steve and chewing on his lip a little bit. "I…" he let out a faint laugh at his own indecision. "This isn't like the forties, where they'd…be upset about that, right?"
(hey we should totally do a scene later on, either for New Years or 4 of July, where the fireworks give Bucky like…a bad PTSD attack and Steve comes into the room and Bucky's like…curled up and shaking and flinching every time a firework goes off)
(mhmm yesyes. it would make sense to have it on the 4th cause its already like– ?early summer. -and steve could have his bday party)
Steve softly shook his head. "No, they wouldn't be upset," He said with a faint smile, "They wanted us to kiss, so– I'm assuming they'd be okay with it. And even if they're against it, I wouldn't really care. This is about us, not them."
(yesss perfect)
He nodded a little bit. "Alright. I…I guess we can tell them, if you want to, then." he replied slowly, looking at Steve with a little smile.
Steve smiled at that. "Well, okay then," He said with a soft laugh, feeling a quiet excitement over the fact that he had supportive friends to share this with. "We'll tell them the next time we're all together? Or, whenever. It doesn't uh– have to be soon." He shyly added.
Bucky nodded again. "Alright." he said, smiling softly as he looked over at the blonde beside him, still holding onto Steve's hand.
Steve bit his lip as he smiled, glancing at Bucky with a fond expression. From their joined hands to Bucky's look of quiet happiness, his feeling of relief was so apparent it would've been impossible to feel more content. He let out a sort laugh, smiling as he shook his head, "God, if our younger selves could see us now."
Bucky laughed. "I think your younger self would just be happy to be so tall." he replied, looking over at Steve. He could remember how tiny Steve used to be.
Steve laughed, nodding as he remembered how much he disliked being short. "Definitely," He agreed, kicking away a little pebble as they walked, "It is very amusing to see the top of everyone's head."
Bucky snorted faintly. "I'm sure it is." He replied, shaking his head a little bit. Steve was an inch or so taller than him, though he wasn't sure who was stronger.
Steve smiled. "Though I wouldn't say that being tall was what younger-me would've been happiest about," He said with a faint laugh, "It's nice being able to reach high shelves myself, instead of asking you."
He laughed. "Yeah, well. You're taller than me now, so asking me would be kind of pointless." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Mhm," Steve nodded glancing at the calm waves breaking in the distance. He let out a faint laugh, "Well– if you need to reach any extra-tall shelves, I'm your guy."
Bucky stuck his tongue out. "I'm not that much shorter than you." he pointed out. "Just an inch or so. I doubt there's much you can reach that I can't."
"Joking," Steve said with a knowing look, smiling. "I was going to say that the tables have turned, even though, like you said, it's 'just an inch or so'," He softly laughed, "You're right. But I gotta say, the weather is great up here."
Bucky laughed a little bit. "Fine, fine." He replied, sighing just a little as he looked at Steve.
Steve smiled as he looked down for a moment. "Hm, anyways, do excuse me rambling about my height," He said with a soft laugh, "There are probably more interesting things to talk about."
Bucky laughed a little bit. "Well. I don't know." He replied, looking up at the sky for a moment, then over at Steve.
"Well, sure there are," Steve said, meeting Bucky's gaze with a smile that reached his eyes, "Take you, for example. Definitely a more interesting than the fact that I used to be short and skinny."
Bucky raised his eyebrows. "Well. I guess that's kind of true." he replied slowly. "Though i'm not sure about that." he shrugged his shoulders.
