"I suppose that's true. But for some reason going out and exploring the world makes you different. And society doesn't like different. Sad but we deal with it."
"I suppose that's true. But for some reason going out and exploring the world makes you different. And society doesn't like different. Sad but we deal with it."
“Well… That's true, unfortunately.” she nodded slowly. “It's not fair but it is true.”
"Not all that is right is fair and not all that is fair is right. It's a phrase I've learned to live by out here. It's one of the best pick me ups I've got."
Charlotte hummed but nodded, interested in the phrase. “It is a very good one. Thoughtful and thought-provoking. You're very creative and intelligent in addition to your charm.” she smiled at him.
"It's part of my appeal, what can I say. It's how I get in so much trouble with men of stature, all their ladies get bored of them and when I stroll in then they just want more. I always refuse, mind you, but somehow I'm always the bad guy."
“Oh! So, that's the trouble you got into back in town.” she realized. “Well, hopefully having me around will dissuade some of the other women.”
"Maybe, we'll see. I'm hoping it does, it gets so annoying having to reject all these already taken women and then still getting in trouble because of it. I don't understand how that's my fault."
“At least you're doing the right and honorable thing by rejecting them. Some women just go looking for trouble and others are just trouble on their own.” she shrugged.
"That's very true. I just don't want to be the reason some woman gets in trouble with her husband. Yet they throw me to the wolves instead. Such is life."
Charlotte nodded slightly. “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. Even if it's their fault and you are in the right.”
"My point exactly. Life always blames the man. While I understand it usually is, sometimes it is not."
“Yeah. But hopefully, things will change now that I'm with you. I can interrupt if someone gets too flirty or clingy. Or we can pretend that I’m your girlfriend or something.” she offered.
"We can definitely do that if you're comfortable with it. I wouldn't want to do anything to make you feel pressured."
“I don't mind. If it will help you from getting in trouble then I'm fine with it.” she assured him. “How about, when we're together in front of people, we come up with a code word or something to let each other know when we're uncomfortable with something?”
"That's a fantastic idea. What do you think it should be? It can't be too out of place or it'll look weird but it can't be too common or we'll miss it."
“Well… How about if you call me “Charlie” since no one else knows I don't like that nickname very much?” she suggested, unsure of what she could say for her code to him.
"That works. And for me, you can use Roddy. The only other person who ever called me that was my family so it's not like we'll come across anyone who uses it anytime soon."
“Ok. That works for me too.” she nodded, smiling at his suggestion. It sounded like a good plan and simple enough to use.
"See? We can make this work. We'll be great together, I know it." Rodney hummed, optimistic.
Charlotte smiled brightly back. “I never said we couldn't and we definitely will be great together.” she agreed happily.
(Right, do we have another plot point we can move these two towards? Other than them just wandering in the woods?)
(umm… You're right. We should have another plot point… Unfortunately, I am drawing a blank atm. Do you have any suggestions?)
(Well, we can bring them into a new town just to see how it goes?)
(ok. Quick question… How long should we say they've been traveling before they get to town?)
(Maybe a few days? Like two or three days?)
