(No no, you have it)
(alright)
Charlotte was fiddling with her bracelet, debating whether or not to put it on as they approached the larger town. It was the first new town that she’d been to and she was both excited and nervous. “What do you think? Should I use this or save it for later?” she asked Rodney.
"Save it Charlotte, you'll be okay. Fairies are pretty common in this town, so I've heard. You'll be just fine the way you are, I promise."
“Alright.” she nodded, slipping the charmed jewelry back into her bag. “That's always a relief. I heard that there are some places that don't welcome fairies… and some places where fairies are treated more like pets.” she told him with a nervous flutter.
"Oh I know, I've been to places like that. It's disgusting how they treat fairies. They're people do, they deserve to be treated like living beings."
Charlotte shivered at the thought. “Yeah. We are. Just because we're one of the smaller species…” she sighed. “I actually remember being called a bug when I was a kid.”
"Aw, that's really sad. Don't worry, you'll never get that treatment from me or anyone else if I have any say in it. I'll keep you safe, I promise." Rodney offered with a smile.
“Thank you, Rodney.” she smiled gratefully. “It may have been a long time ago, and it doesn't really bother me anymore, but I appreciate you saying that. And I know that you mean it too.”
"I do try my best." He hummed as he spotted what he assumed was the local tavern. "Care to visit a home for adventurers that isn't your own?"
Charlotte giggled as she saw the same sign he did and nodded. “Of course. I'm interested to see how different it is. Not to mention, sleeping in a bed again.” she laughed.
"Ah come on, it wasn't that bad." Rodney laughed as he pushed open the door for them. The room was warm and bright, people talking and laughing and having drinks. Rodney took a deep breath. "Home sweet home."
“No… It wasn't bad. Actually, I did enjoy it but it will still take some time for me to get used to sleeping outdoors.” she admitted as she followed him inside. She sighed softly, taking in the familiar scents and sounds of the inn.
"You want a drink? I can get you one. I kinda want a glass of something myself so I'll probably get one."
“Oh, yes please.” she nodded. “Shall I find us a table?”
"Go ahead. Just be careful, don't want you getting trampled or sat on while I'm waiting for our drinks."
“I'll be staying on top of the table.” she promised. “And if anyone tries anything, I can make things uncomfortable for them.” she smirked before flying off.
Rodney rolled his eyes with a smile, shaking his head before heading over to the bar to order a couple of drinks for the two of them.
Charlotte flew around for a moment before finding a suitable table and claiming it for her and Rodney. She had to admit that she was a little surprised by the number of fairies she saw here. It was a nice change from the few she saw back home. Of course, there was a decent-sized community but it certainly seemed to be more here.
Rodney came back a few minutes later with a couple of glasses, one just the size for her. "There you are. Hope you enjoy it."
“Thank you.” Charlotte smiled up at him as she accepted the smaller glass. Even though it was the available size for fairies, and other small customers, she still needed both hands to hold it.
Rodney sat next to her, sipping from his glass and observing all of the patrons around them. "Places like this are so comfortable, don't you think?"
Charlotte hummed in agreement as she sat comfortably on the table, looking around them. “They are. Comfortable, familiar, and a little chaotic.” she added before taking a sip of her drink. “It is a little strange for me though, since I’m used to being on the other side of this setting.” she giggled.
Rodney just laughed. "I suppose that's true. But now you're being served instead of serving. Isn't it so much more relaxing?"
“Very much so. It is a nice change of pace, I admit.” she nodded. “And getting to be myself in a place like this makes it even better.”
