"That's what they say… But they don't know the girl behind the mask," Kasey sighed, picking at her food.
"That's what they say… But they don't know the girl behind the mask," Kasey sighed, picking at her food.
“The girl behind the mask is cool, too.” Liam replied, finishing his food.
Kasey glanced up at Liam with a small smile. "Thanks. Her boyfriend is pretty sweet, too."
Liam gave her a soft smile, “Thank-you, she’s better though.”
Kasey clicked her tongue. "Maybe, but the guy who works for a newspaper writing articles about her superhero side and doesn't reveal her identity has to be pretty great."
Liam laughed quietly, “I guess that’s true. He still knows that his girlfriend is better in all ways.”
"Stop it. You're a wonderful person, Liam," Kasey said with a roll of her eyes, blushing a bit at his comment.
“Not as wonderful as you.” Liam replied, winking at her.
Kasey's blush deepened even as she willed it not to.
"You most certainly are every bit as wonderful as I am, if not more so," she argued.
Liam shook slowly his head, “I disagree there.”
He wanted to agree but couldn’t. As much as he new Kasey believed it, he couldn’t.
"Why? How can I convince you?" Kasey asked, finishing her food and pushing the plate away so she could lean forward.
“You can’t convince me, end of story.” Liam replied, crossing his arms.
Kasey glared at him from across the table. "Why not? Why won't you believe that you're an amazing person?"
Liam let out a breath through his nose and shook his head, “It doesn’t matter.” He said, taking his plate to the kitchen.
Kasey sat back in her chair and looked after Liam worriedly. Why didn't he believe her? Why wouldn't he tell her why?
Shaking her head, Kasey sighed. If he wanted to tell her, he would. On his own time.
Liam rubbed his face and ran the sink full of water and started to wash the dishes up, trying to not think about the conversation that just passed.
Kasey stood and grabbed her plate, taking it to the kitchen.
"Let me help you," she offered quietly, standing beside Liam.
“Y-You don’t have too, Kasey.” Liam said back, biting his lip and averting his gaze.
"No, but I want to," Kasey said softly. She was worried about him, and the way he was acting now wasn't helping.
“You can dry then… if that’s okay?” He said quietly, handing her a tea towel.
"Yeah, of course," Kasey said gently, giving him a small smile as she started to dry the dishes. She wanted to apologize for being so pushy, but she didn't want to bring up what seemed like a touchy subject.
“Thank-you.” He said quietly, continuing to wash the plates. He was trying to force himself out of this… this mood, try and make himself happy again for Kasey’s sake so she wouldn’t worry but he couldn’t. Why? Out of all the times for this to happen, it happened now…
Kasey nodded and quietly said, "You're welcome."
She dried the dishes in silence, waiting for Liam to speak up first. That way, she would know if he was ready to talk or not.
Liam wanted to talk but didn’t know what to say. Eventually, after he finished, he managed to say, his voice no more then a whisper, “I’m sorry…”
"No, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pushed you to talk to me," Kasey said gently, shaking her head as she dried the last dish and set the towel down.
