Jay was quiet as he scanned the room. "I don't see anything I need." He said to her. "You?" Leo barked again, and bounded around the room happily. Jay grinned. "Leo, quiet! I don't think they allow pets here." He joked, chuckling softly.
She shook her head, “Nope.” A small laugh escaped her and she rolled her eyes, a smile on her face, “That, is honestly a pretty good joke.”
Jay grinned. "Thanks." He said with a soft smile.
She chuckled again before moving forward into the room, looking around before making her way down the hallway to see if there was anything good in the bedrooms or bathroom.
Jay started checking different rooms. "Hey, a shirt!" He exclaimed. "I'm going to try it on!" He called out. He was in a separate room than Delia. He started pulling off his current shirt.
“Alright, tell me if it fits you,” She called back, currently rummaging through the bathroom medicine cabinet and under the sink for anything they needed.
He pulled off his shirt, ad set it aside, pulling on the new one. "It fits!" He exclaimed. He changed back into his normal shirt, folding the new one and putting it in his backpack.
A small smile appeared on Delia’s face and she continued looking through the cabinets, “Nice! One item down, a hundred more to go.” So far her stack of found items in the bathroom consisted of shampoo, conditioner, a half empty bottle of perfume that honestly didn’t smell half bad, some old makeup, an unopened stick of deodorant, and a small container of Tums that was undecided if it was good or bad.
Jay chuckled. "Mhm." He agreed, and came over to help look. He was quiet as he worked, humming under his breath. Leo explored the apartment curiously, sniffing at everything. He came back over to Delia and Jay, and nuzzled Jay's leg with a soft whine. Jay bent down, and picked him up, petting him gently. "Hey bud." He greeted. Leo squirmed, and licked at Jay's face, tail wagging.
“Seems he’s not mad at you anymore,” She said, glancing at the two of them before motioning to the pile, “Need anything from here? I have yet to decide if I want to take the Tums, deodorant and perfume, even though it would be nice.”
Jay smiled slightly, and grabbed the deodorant. "I'm taking this. I need it." He said with a soft chuckle. "Unless you want me to stink." He stuck the deodorant in his backpack. Leo barked softly, and squirmed again.
“You don’t stink,” She replied with a small laugh, taking both the Tums and the perfume and setting them into her backpack, “Now me on the other hand..that’s a whole different story.” Turning, she faced Leo and smiled, “Now what do you need buddy?”
Leo barked, wiggling. Jay put him down, chuckling softly. "I don't stink because I bathe as often as possible, and still have a bit of deodorant left." Hs shook his head. "And you don't smell." He added. Leo ran over to the corner, sniffing curiously at it, then back over to Delia.
She shook her head and turned back to the cabinet she was searching for a minute, “I do smell, probably like smokey fires and clothes that need a good washing.” There was nothing else good that she could find in the cabinet and she focused on Leo, teaching down and petting the puppy, “Next room? And then we can go to the next apartment.”
Jay shrugged. "Hey, that's not that bad." He replied. "I've smelled a hell of a lot worse." He gave a small smile, eyes going a bit distant as he remembered the aliens ships. The smells. The sounds. He swallowed, shaking his head quickly to dispel the memories. "Alright. Let's go."
Delia nodded and headed out of the bathroom and into the other bedroom, focusing on trying to find a new shirt and pants. She set to work immediately, not wanting to take long so they could keep moving and get through all the rooms by the end of the day.
Jay checked the last remaining room, but found nothing useful. Leo bounded around the apartment, sniffing at everything curiously.
“Nothing here,” She called with a sigh, making her way out of the room and to the door of the apartment, “Let’s keep going, I’d like to find some new pants and a shirt.”
Jay nodded, and walked with her. "Alright." He said, walking to the next apartment and trying the door. He pushed on it, and forced it open. "There."
With a nod of thanks, she headed inside quietly. There didn’t seem to be anyone in the apartment and she set to work, being quick and quiet as she searched all the drawers and rooms with Jay’s help. A bright smile crossed her face when she found a faded purple tank top in one of the drawers that looked like it would fit her. “Found a shirt, gonna try it on quick,” She said, closing the door of the room as best she could so she could have some privacy before slipping into the slightly musty shirt. It fit and her smile grew as she changed back into her other shirt and stuffed it into her backpack.
Jay was quiet as he helped her, thinking. He gave her privacy when she changed, and sighed. This can't go on. How long until… He shook his head slightly. Leo was quiet, sticking close to Jay.
(Wanna just time skip through the rest of their searching?)
(Oke)
The rest of their day was filled with searching, room after room, floor after floor. Delia didn’t stop to eat lunch, too happy after she found a pair of slightly too big sweatpants that would still work even though they had a tear in the fabric over the knee. She also found a slightly expired granola bar, though it still looked good, a two pack of toothbrushes that were still in the pack, a surprisingly clean copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, and even a deck of cards. “Find anything good?” She asked once they reached the top floor, which looked like the rooms were quite expensive since there were only four of them. She was slightly out of breath, after climbing floor after floor with crutches and with the setting sun she saw in the last room she went through, it seemed to be getting pretty late in the day.
Jay shrugged slightly. He had grabbed another shirt, along with a new pair of shoes. He had found a collar for Leo, along with a better bowl. "Not really. Then again, I wasn't looking quite as hard." He had also found a few books in halfway decent condition, that he had stuffed into his backpack. He started exploring the apartment they were currently in, and grinned. "This one has a god bed!" He exclaimed, sitting down on it. "I mean, i think it got wet or something, it kind of smells like mildew, but still!" It creaked a bit beneath his weight. Leo was sleeping in a makeshift sling on Jay's back. The little pup had quickly grown tired, and Jay had used an old blanket to make a sling to carry the puppy with.
