"Ehhh, sorta." He replied. "I only got it because my dad helped me shoot it, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten one."
"Ehhh, sorta." He replied. "I only got it because my dad helped me shoot it, otherwise I wouldn't have gotten one."
“Was it a doe? Or a buck?” She asked, remembering the first time she had gone hunting with her mother. Her dad was never a very avid outdoors person so she always went with her mom, the first time being when she was twelve and had taken hunters safety so she could carry her own gun while her mother carried one as well.
"Buck." He replied. "I kept the antlers for like…ever." he laughed softly. Leo whined softly, nuzzling at Delia's hand. Jay glanced at Leo, and chuckled. "He likes you better than he likes me right now, even though I'm the one who found him."
She smiled and pet Leo, chuckling lightly, “I have a way with animals, plus, you were the big meany that had to check on his paw remember?” Delia sighed, forgetting about the dangers outside for a moment and just focusing on the stories and the company while she could.
Jay laughed. "Mhm. Hopefully he won't hate me tomorrow." He said, smiling. Leo closed his eyes, leaning into her hand. Jay leaned back on his hands, biting his lower lip slightly.
“So, anything else you want to know about me now that I know more about you?” She asked, watching Leo with a smile and pulling the puppy closer to her so she didn’t have to reach out as far to let him. Looking around the room, she eventually glanced at him, her hair falling in front of her face momentarily before she flipped it out of her face with a flick of her head.
Jay sighed softly. "Mm. Nothing I can think of." He replied, glancing over at her with a small smile. Leo was quiet. I should tell her about Killswitch. It's too dangerous for her not to know…but if I tell her… He glanced down at his hands for a moment.
She nodded, eyes flicking closed as Leo trusted her enough to snuggle closer to her. As much as she tried to fall asleep at that moment, she was still wide awake, ears alert for every noise and eyes eventually opening again to check if the fire was still going, though she knew it probably wasn’t the best idea to keep going all night to draw attention to their hideout.
Jay grabbed his blanket and coat, and rolled up in them, laying down on his side. He put his hat back on to cover his hair, though his eyes remained open. Leo, still snuggled up to Delia, yawned and closed his eyes.
“The world is so quiet,” She whispered, more to herself than him as she looked around. Quietly, she started to hum to herself to pass the time and help her fall asleep.
He looked over at her. "Mm." He looked back up at the ceiling, listening to her humming for a moment. He sighed softly. How long can this go on? He wondered. How long before something happens and she leaves?
Her humming slowly quieted and eventually dissipated completely as she ended the song and sighed, still wide awake. Guess she was going to take makeshifts watch duty tonight.
He swallowed, and rolled onto his other side, blanket pulled tight around him. He wasn't sure if he would even be able to get to sleep. Talking had dredged up memories that he would rather have left alone. Leo was asleep, curled up beside Delia contentedly.
Looking down at the yellow-gold puppy at her side, she sighed, pushing back memories that were too painful to bear. She refused to cry in front of Jay. Her fingers drummed against her blanket and she pushed back more memories, wishing her mind would go blank for even just a few minutes, even if it meant she got bashed in the head with something.
Jay took a deep breath, and sat up. "I'm going for a walk." He said, standing and pulling his hoodie on. He left the room quietly, taking his gun with him. He went outside the building, and just started running. Not away, just through the streets, just to get some energy out.
“Don’t get caught or mugged,” She said with a nod, sighing again and snuggling closer to Leo, who seemed to be fast asleep and content. Her eyes were still shut and she pulled as much of her blanket over her as she could while still laying on part, really trying to fall asleep.
Jay kept running, taking deep breaths as he ran. He kept an eye out for debris he could trip on, but otherwise didn't pay much attention to his surroundings.
As much as she tried, her body seemed to have other plans and eventually she just gave up. Rolling onto her back, she looked up at the ceiling and sighed, her memories returning. She shook her head and blinked back the start of tears, but she couldn’t push away the memories any more and soon silent tears were running down her face.
Leo woke up as she moved, and sat up. He whined softly, tail thumping on the floor as he nuzzled her cheek. He yipped softly, looking at her worriedly. Jay kept running.
“I’m fine Leo,” She said as her voice wobbled, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand and petting the puppy, “You can go back to sleep.” The tears didn’t slow or stop and she could only focus on trying to not become a huge loud sobbing mess.
Leo tipped his head to one side, staring at her mournfully. He snuggled up to her, and licked her cheek softly. Jay slowed to a stop, and leaned against a wall.
Delia rolled onto her side once again and pressed her face against her bag, stroking Leo’s fur as she let the painful memories wash over her and hoped they would end soon.
Leo whined softly, snuggled up to her still. Jay took a deep breath, putting his head in his hands as memories vaulted through him. Killswitch…"a weapon against the vermin"…blood spattered against the walls… He started shaking.
She didn’t try to slow the tears, letting them spill as the memories seemed to go on for what felt like hours. Eventually she couldn’t cry anymore, sniffling and shaking her head as her mind finally finished with the memories. Delia’s eyes were closed and she sighed, shaking her head. Crying made her feel so weak, she hated it.
Leo stared at her mournfully, watching her. His tail thumped against the ground as he looked up at her. Jay slowly sank to the ground, biting his lip. "Oh my God…" He whispered. "Please don't do this!"…"i love you"…blood everywhere…
