Hawkin rubbed his eyes.
“A force echo eh? Well it sure forced me to go through an echo of a memory. As for the man, with the golden eyes and the brown hair, I had the sense that he was going to kill a lot of people. He saw me in a memory and I knew he was going to destroy something important. Something big. If he could see me in the future, in a memory, he had to be some sort of space angel or like the chosen one or something. But this office, this place, holds so much more than just one memory. I’m concerned if I get too curious and start wanting to touch things I’ll just get thrown right back into remembering. Everything in this room seems to be calling to me to touch it. I’m going to be completely real, I think we opened more than just one door. And the second door was me and then I was just slammed really hard and I rattled on my hinges.”
He touched his temples and winced.
“Being pulled into a memory doesn’t hurt. It’s the headache I get afterwards that does. Granted it’s short, but ugh. It feels like my brain is being put into place again.”
Calista swallowed hard at the mention of a “chosen one”… She had never had much interest in prophecies or things like that but she knew about them and that they existed. The words kept bouncing around her head. It had to mean something at least. But the fact that the man Hawkin saw was on his way to kill a lot of people… “Well, there was a war at the time.” she mumbled, knowing it was a weak excuse and doubted the young man would be fooled. She shook her head and focused on Hawkin for now. “I won't stop you from touching something if you feel you really should touch it but… I want to teach you something first. I don't know if it will stop these visions for everything or not but it should help you have some choice whether or not you see something, as well as turn off the “call” you hear.” she informed him, moving into a traditional meditative position. “It may even help with the aftereffects you mentioned.”
Hawkin shrugged and mimicked Calista’s position.
“It couldn’t hurt. I’ll give it a shot. I do want to know about the man, and what he caused or became. Hopefully this does help with the headaches, because I want to know the memories of this place. So much happened here over the course of a few years and all of it was significant. Everything here in this office has some significance.”
He cracked a goofy smile.
“I know what I saw was terrifying, but I want to know more. Curiosity killed the Loth-cat am I right? The headaches might be worth it after a while.”
Calista smiled softly, touched as Hawkin copied her. “I don't blame you. I’m curious about who he is as well. But I have to warn you, this place belonged to a Sith for many years. Someone strong in the Dark Side of the Force and that in itself is worrying. I don't want you to be influenced by any of that.” she admitted out of concern. She had learned so many cliche warnings about the Dark Side from her Master and, of course, she trusted her but she didn't want to scare or annoy Hawkin with them right now. “Which is why I'm going to teach you how to shield your mind. It's a fairly simple but effective technique.” she started to explain.
(and of course, I can't find any helpful examples of Jedi mental shields to use in this…)
(It's an RP, make that mess upppppp! It's the story you create!)
Hawkin rolled his eyes and laughed.
"I'm not a Jedi. How could the dark side really influence me? All it has brought me right now is headaches.. Now I am curious about how shielding your mind works. It sounds weird. I know physically, there's nothing happening on the outside. But does my little mental self get a shield or something? It's such a foreign concept to me. Should we check in on Jado? He's probably worried. I have so many questions. But not nearly enough answers. Everything is so complicated but so simple now…"
“You’re still a Force-sensitive. The Dark Side can still affect you.” Calista told him firmly. “It is corruptive, parasitic… it's not like messing around with a blaster or a lightsaber. It doesn't let go.” she warned. But she sighed at the mention of the third member of their group. “The comms are still active. He can still hear us… he might just not be sure what we’re talking about.” she chuckled lightly, not making fun of him but understanding the confusion that many people seemed to have whenever the Force was brought up. “As for the shields… you’re right nothing physically happens. It takes practice to make it strong and maintain it but, in my experience, the easiest way is to simply imagine the strongest material you can think of forming a barrier around your mind. I know it sounds strange but it has worked for me.”
Hawkin looked at Calista like she was crazy.
"So you're fully telling me, besides me being special, that I am very much indeed a force sensitive being? And the dark side can like suck out my soul or something? Do I have some kind of little force sensitive gremlins swimming in my blood or something? As for the mental shield, I'll try. What really could go wrong? I pass out again? Pffffttttt. That'll be alright."
Calista dropped her head slightly, bringing her hand up to her forehead. “I'm saying that between you being able to see, and possibly interact with, Force Echoes and the fact that someone in one of those Echoes sensed you… it's highly likely. As far as I'm aware, you can't have the ability you have and be Force null.” she explained, trying to keep her voice calm. Though she barely held back a snort at Hawkin’s comment about gremlins. “Not quite. If I remember correctly, it's something called a midi-chlorian count. Which is something in your blood but I wouldn't call them gremlins.” she admitted. “As for sucking your soul out… I don't think so, not literally. But I know that it changes you. My Master knew someone named Yan when they were both young but he Fell and she couldn't recognize the man he became anymore.”
“I doubt you’ll pass out from just setting up your mental shield.” Calista smirked slightly. “Just close your eyes and concentrate.”
Hawkin laughed.
“So I’m Force positive and I have the blood gremlins. Got it. As for passing out with a mental shield, at this point I don’t know what will or won’t make me go to temporary unwilling sleep. As for falling to the dark side, did it change your master’s friend physically or mentally or all of it?”
Hawkin fidgeted and tried to sit still. He closed his eyes and tried to concentrate.
“Let’s let the blood gremlins help me out here. I’m gonna try to make a mental block.”
He leaned back and pushed his arms out forward as if he was stretching. And then he crossed them. And waited for Calista’s next instruction.
Calista tried to stay serious but Hawkin constantly coming up with his own words for things almost made her laugh again. "She didn't… I don't think it was a physical change." she said clearing her throat. "She didn't like to talk about it but there was always a feeling that it was a mental change and maybe even a change in how he felt. Jedi and other Force-sensitives can feel another's presence, which makes it very hard for someone to sneak up on them but, if we're familiar enough with someone, we can even identify who that person is before we see them." she explained, hoping that Hawkin would understand.
"Are you concentrating?" she asked, raising a brow at his little display.
Hawkin still had his eyes closed and arms crossed.
“Sound weird. It’s kind of like how I identify guys at the shop by their footsteps. If one of them changed up the type of shoe they wear and threw me off, I’d be mildly upset. And yes, I am trying to concentrate. I’m going to have a very hardy mental block that will eventually block out all of my problems.”
“That's as good a comparison as any.” Calista nodded thoughtfully. “But a mental shield wouldn't block out all of your problems. It should still help with the Echoes and keep other Force-sensitives out of your head.” she added as she used the Force to poke at Hawkin’s mind and test his shields.
("you were the chosen one you were supposed to destroy the sith not join them"(sorry had to) )
"hey lets get back on track have you found anything?…" he said interrupting the both of them "or are you gonna keep yourself distracted all day…"
“That's as good a comparison as any.” Calista nodded thoughtfully. “But a mental shield wouldn't block out all of your problems. It should still help with the Echoes and keep other Force-sensitives out of your head.” she added as she used the Force to poke at Hawkin’s mind and test his shields.
Hawkin felt the tickle of Calista poking his mental shield. Granted he held her at bay, but it wasn't easy. His concentration broke when he heard Jado over the comlink. He opened his eyes.
"Yeah yeah. We're getting there. Trying to run damage control so I don't pass out again. Haven't found out much, except that the snippet of memory that I got had a man with brown hair and golden eyes and he was marching somewhere and he saw me in a memory. That was both so weird and terrifying."
"Not bad for a first attempt either." Calista told them both before just addressing Hawkin again. "You still need practice but at least you know how to keep things out. It'll get easier too. Most of the time I forget that mine is up." she encouraged, getting back to her feet. She didn't really feel like Hawkin was ready to face whatever else this room held, but Jado's communication reminded her that this may not be the best place or the right time for such training. "If Hawkin feels up for it, we can try to look at Palpatine's files."
Hawkin shrugged.
"I'm up for anything. You can look at his files and I can just look around his office. See if there's anything that really tries to draw me in. If you do hear a thunk on the floor though, don't worry about it, I'll get back up shortly. Gotta try and experience this mind shield. Let's go."
Hawkin stood up, fixed his jacket and walked back into Palpatine's office.
"point the coms holo cam at the file cabnet so I can look at them and find the correct one.." he waited patiently uneasy about this whole thing
"You just be careful. Try to anchor yourself here so you can pull yourself out." Calista advised Hawkin as she moved towards Palpatine's desk. "Jado, I understand how… eager you are for this information and why but please, give us a chance. We're not on a time-sensitive mission here." she reminded gently. "I am going to need your help with these files anyway. If nothing is encrypted, then I'm going to be very surprised." she admitted, using the Force to give the comm a clear view of the screen as she started her attempt at slicing.
Hawkin nodded.
"I'll try my best. If you need anything sliced, I can help."
He started snooping around and touching boxes. The mental shield helped. Everything in Palpatine's office was reminiscent of a darker time, and Hawking shuddered at some of the things that he came across. However, a box off the side of the desk seemed to draw him closer. He walked to the box, and sat down in the chair behind the desk. He took a deep breath in and pulled the box closer. Hawkin felt a flicker of a memory come into focus. He relaxed into the chair, and looked at Calista, who was on the holo with Jado. He pulled the box closer and unlatched the latch on it. A slight hiss emanated from the box and it opened. A sleek looking cylinder with a switch on the side was inside. He looked back up, at Calista. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and touched the cylinder, and was thrown into another memory, however it wasn't as bad as before.
he looked at the folders "hmmm…..im not seeing anything important…what about you do you or hawkin see anything?…" he turned so he was facing back at calista "search for something that might have clone on it I'm gonna turn my holo off to clean my helmet just to check on its tech and as I'm tired of having this damn this on all day" he turned the com off and did so
Calista nodded slightly in both agreement and acknowledgment at Jado’s comments and advice. Of course, none of the immediate files would look important. The incriminating files that the late Emperor would have kept in this office would be much more hidden. But she could understand the feeling of wanting to take off the helmet while he was alone… even if it wasn't the best place for something that she understood to be personal and private according to Mandalorian culture.
“I might have to take you up on that offer, Hawkin.” she said as she continued her attempt to work on the files. She did glance up at him a couple of times to check on him as he gathered his own information but believed that he was doing ok. But when he stood next to her and opened a box… she turned to look at him and felt her heart leap as she recognized the item as a lightsaber.
Hawkin had stood up and was holding onto the desk as a particularly strong memory was being relived. It was of a group and Jedi and they were all staring at him. He looked down and realized that he was merely standing in the shadow of what he could only assume to be the emperor. He turned and looked at the emperor and he saw his face clearly and the cylinder that was in the box. He could hear muffled voices coming from the group of Jedi, and as he watched in horror, he saw the emperor unleash an attack that was more intricate than what an old man could have ever possibly been capable of. He watched in horror as all but one of the Jedi fell. The last one had a purple lightsaber, and he was fighting for his life. The door opened, and for a second Hawkin thought that this new Jedi was going to save the other's life. He was gravely wrong and watched as the one with the purple saber fell to lighting and swings of a blue saber. Once again, the face became clear. He saw the man with brown hair, but his eyes had not yet turned golden. The man with the blue saber and brown hair turned and kneeled towards the emperor. Hawkin was seeing the beginning of the fall of the republic. Once again, the man with the brown hair turned towards him. He knew that he had been seen. Hawkin jerked himself out of the memory and it translated into real life. He came crashing down into the chair he had been sitting in before.
he checked his helmet "gonna need to get some more materials to fix It the black market might have some…i have the credits to pay for it…" he took the com and kept the holo feature off "whats going on i heard a crash is everyone alright" he waited telling himself not to worry in his head
"Hawkin!" Calista called out when she saw him jolt in the chair. She could feel how much whatever he had seen had shaken him but she didn't blame him. "Just breathe." she encouraged, placing her hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry. If I had seen that sooner, I could have warned you about sabers. They are handmade by Jedi, and I would assume Sith… that or they just steal them… anyway. But because of that fact, they are more likely to hold more memories and perhaps even stronger ones." she explained.
Hawkin shook his head.
"Well, the headaches aren't as bad anymore, that's the good thing. The mental shield works. However, that memory was drastic."
Hawkin shakily stood up and lifted his hands off the desk, he pointed to the floor in front of the door.
"There have been several murders in this room, in quick succession in that area, and one Jedi was thrown out of the window. A Jedi with a purple saber. The man with the brown hair and golden eyes was there, except he didn't have golden eyes yet. They were a piercing blue. He bowed to the emperor. However his lightsaber I can assume, wasn't red. It was blue."
He shakily walked around the desk and stood in the middle of the room and took a big breath.
"I have reason to believe, I've seen-"
He stuck his arm out.
"Which by the way, no fifteen year old should have seen-"
He ran his hands though his hair.
"The beginning of the fall of the republic, which happened in this room. The memories showed me."
He looked at Calista with wide wild eyes.
"And not to mention the man with the blue then later golden eyes saw me. I swear he sees me in the memories. I had to pull myself out of it. For some reason, I fully believe that he can end my life through a memory, but he chooses not too. I don't know how to explain it."
(oh yeah siths have the power to be killed and if they are killed by someone with strong hatred for them they can be possessed by said sith lord Palpatine almost succeded with luke but vader stopped him)
Calista listened carefully, helping Hawkin stand when she saw him trembling. Again she didn't blame him as he explained what he saw and followed his gestures. “A purple saber? You’re sure?” she pressed. It wasn't that she didn't believe him, it was just that she knew him… she had seen him around the temple a couple of times.
But the description of the other Jedi was still a little more vague. And the color of his blade was fairly common too…
“You saw more than that.” she sighed. “I think you saw the start of the fall of the Jedi.” she told him gently, meeting Hawkin’s eyes. “But that man… I haven't heard of Force Echoes being deadly, but if he keeps seeing you, I will agree that it could be dangerous.” she admitted. “Was there anything else you can remember about him? Any visible scars, the color of his robes?”
