"hey lets get back on track have you found anything?…" he said interrupting the both of them "or are you gonna keep yourself distracted all day…"
“That's as good a comparison as any.” Calista nodded thoughtfully. “But a mental shield wouldn't block out all of your problems. It should still help with the Echoes and keep other Force-sensitives out of your head.” she added as she used the Force to poke at Hawkin’s mind and test his shields.
Hawkin felt the tickle of Calista poking his mental shield. Granted he held her at bay, but it wasn't easy. His concentration broke when he heard Jado over the comlink. He opened his eyes.
"Yeah yeah. We're getting there. Trying to run damage control so I don't pass out again. Haven't found out much, except that the snippet of memory that I got had a man with brown hair and golden eyes and he was marching somewhere and he saw me in a memory. That was both so weird and terrifying."
"Not bad for a first attempt either." Calista told them both before just addressing Hawkin again. "You still need practice but at least you know how to keep things out. It'll get easier too. Most of the time I forget that mine is up." she encouraged, getting back to her feet. She didn't really feel like Hawkin was ready to face whatever else this room held, but Jado's communication reminded her that this may not be the best place or the right time for such training. "If Hawkin feels up for it, we can try to look at Palpatine's files."
Hawkin shrugged.
"I'm up for anything. You can look at his files and I can just look around his office. See if there's anything that really tries to draw me in. If you do hear a thunk on the floor though, don't worry about it, I'll get back up shortly. Gotta try and experience this mind shield. Let's go."
Hawkin stood up, fixed his jacket and walked back into Palpatine's office.
"point the coms holo cam at the file cabnet so I can look at them and find the correct one.." he waited patiently uneasy about this whole thing
"You just be careful. Try to anchor yourself here so you can pull yourself out." Calista advised Hawkin as she moved towards Palpatine's desk. "Jado, I understand how… eager you are for this information and why but please, give us a chance. We're not on a time-sensitive mission here." she reminded gently. "I am going to need your help with these files anyway. If nothing is encrypted, then I'm going to be very surprised." she admitted, using the Force to give the comm a clear view of the screen as she started her attempt at slicing.
Hawkin nodded.
"I'll try my best. If you need anything sliced, I can help."
He started snooping around and touching boxes. The mental shield helped. Everything in Palpatine's office was reminiscent of a darker time, and Hawking shuddered at some of the things that he came across. However, a box off the side of the desk seemed to draw him closer. He walked to the box, and sat down in the chair behind the desk. He took a deep breath in and pulled the box closer. Hawkin felt a flicker of a memory come into focus. He relaxed into the chair, and looked at Calista, who was on the holo with Jado. He pulled the box closer and unlatched the latch on it. A slight hiss emanated from the box and it opened. A sleek looking cylinder with a switch on the side was inside. He looked back up, at Calista. He took a deep breath, closed his eyes and touched the cylinder, and was thrown into another memory, however it wasn't as bad as before.
he looked at the folders "hmmm…..im not seeing anything important…what about you do you or hawkin see anything?…" he turned so he was facing back at calista "search for something that might have clone on it I'm gonna turn my holo off to clean my helmet just to check on its tech and as I'm tired of having this damn this on all day" he turned the com off and did so
Calista nodded slightly in both agreement and acknowledgment at Jado’s comments and advice. Of course, none of the immediate files would look important. The incriminating files that the late Emperor would have kept in this office would be much more hidden. But she could understand the feeling of wanting to take off the helmet while he was alone… even if it wasn't the best place for something that she understood to be personal and private according to Mandalorian culture.
“I might have to take you up on that offer, Hawkin.” she said as she continued her attempt to work on the files. She did glance up at him a couple of times to check on him as he gathered his own information but believed that he was doing ok. But when he stood next to her and opened a box… she turned to look at him and felt her heart leap as she recognized the item as a lightsaber.
Hawkin had stood up and was holding onto the desk as a particularly strong memory was being relived. It was of a group and Jedi and they were all staring at him. He looked down and realized that he was merely standing in the shadow of what he could only assume to be the emperor. He turned and looked at the emperor and he saw his face clearly and the cylinder that was in the box. He could hear muffled voices coming from the group of Jedi, and as he watched in horror, he saw the emperor unleash an attack that was more intricate than what an old man could have ever possibly been capable of. He watched in horror as all but one of the Jedi fell. The last one had a purple lightsaber, and he was fighting for his life. The door opened, and for a second Hawkin thought that this new Jedi was going to save the other's life. He was gravely wrong and watched as the one with the purple saber fell to lighting and swings of a blue saber. Once again, the face became clear. He saw the man with brown hair, but his eyes had not yet turned golden. The man with the blue saber and brown hair turned and kneeled towards the emperor. Hawkin was seeing the beginning of the fall of the republic. Once again, the man with the brown hair turned towards him. He knew that he had been seen. Hawkin jerked himself out of the memory and it translated into real life. He came crashing down into the chair he had been sitting in before.
he checked his helmet "gonna need to get some more materials to fix It the black market might have some…i have the credits to pay for it…" he took the com and kept the holo feature off "whats going on i heard a crash is everyone alright" he waited telling himself not to worry in his head
"Hawkin!" Calista called out when she saw him jolt in the chair. She could feel how much whatever he had seen had shaken him but she didn't blame him. "Just breathe." she encouraged, placing her hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry. If I had seen that sooner, I could have warned you about sabers. They are handmade by Jedi, and I would assume Sith… that or they just steal them… anyway. But because of that fact, they are more likely to hold more memories and perhaps even stronger ones." she explained.
Hawkin shook his head.
"Well, the headaches aren't as bad anymore, that's the good thing. The mental shield works. However, that memory was drastic."
Hawkin shakily stood up and lifted his hands off the desk, he pointed to the floor in front of the door.
"There have been several murders in this room, in quick succession in that area, and one Jedi was thrown out of the window. A Jedi with a purple saber. The man with the brown hair and golden eyes was there, except he didn't have golden eyes yet. They were a piercing blue. He bowed to the emperor. However his lightsaber I can assume, wasn't red. It was blue."
He shakily walked around the desk and stood in the middle of the room and took a big breath.
"I have reason to believe, I've seen-"
He stuck his arm out.
"Which by the way, no fifteen year old should have seen-"
He ran his hands though his hair.
"The beginning of the fall of the republic, which happened in this room. The memories showed me."
He looked at Calista with wide wild eyes.
"And not to mention the man with the blue then later golden eyes saw me. I swear he sees me in the memories. I had to pull myself out of it. For some reason, I fully believe that he can end my life through a memory, but he chooses not too. I don't know how to explain it."
(oh yeah siths have the power to be killed and if they are killed by someone with strong hatred for them they can be possessed by said sith lord Palpatine almost succeded with luke but vader stopped him)
Calista listened carefully, helping Hawkin stand when she saw him trembling. Again she didn't blame him as he explained what he saw and followed his gestures. “A purple saber? You’re sure?” she pressed. It wasn't that she didn't believe him, it was just that she knew him… she had seen him around the temple a couple of times.
But the description of the other Jedi was still a little more vague. And the color of his blade was fairly common too…
“You saw more than that.” she sighed. “I think you saw the start of the fall of the Jedi.” she told him gently, meeting Hawkin’s eyes. “But that man… I haven't heard of Force Echoes being deadly, but if he keeps seeing you, I will agree that it could be dangerous.” she admitted. “Was there anything else you can remember about him? Any visible scars, the color of his robes?”
he sighed and turned the com off going back to caring for his armor the best he could "I wonder…doesn't this still have the old clone command spot for fox and his lackeys…" he turned his com to tell them what he was doing "hey I'm gonna see if fox's old command place if still here so I can fix my armor up" he turned it off. putting his helmet off and when to do so
Hawking tried to calm himself.
"The fall of the Jedi? How could I even be seeing that? That was before I was ever born. Why am I seeing things that was before my time? As for the lightsaber, I'm certain. It was purple. I have never seen anything like it. As for the other man, his face is very clear. Piercing blue eyes, shoulder length brown hair, a blue lightsaber, dark brown and black robes, and a scar that crossed over his right eye."
Hawkin heard Jado's voice crackle over the com, and it drew his attention back.
“Memories live on through these Echoes. It doesn't matter when they took place or when they are seen.” Calista explained gently before letting out a sigh. “The Jedi with the purple saber was Master Mace Windu. He was a one-of-a-kind Jedi,” she told him if only to remember what she could about the Kel Dor council member. Her eyes widened as a memory of a tall man with brown hair, blue eyes, and dark robes came back to her. “Oh Force… that's… I think that man was Anakin. He was a… I think he was a Knight but I remember he was Master Kenobi’s padawan. Even through the war.” she murmured thoughtfully. “I remember he was always losing his lightsaber so he had to keep going with the younglings to Illum to get a new crystal.” she added, holding back a light laugh.
Hawkin cracked a smile.
"Memories are weird. I think I would have really liked to meet Mace Windu and this Kenobi guy. They seem nice. However, when you explain that Anakin fella like that, he doesn't seen so scary. But what do golden eyes mean? Did something happen to him? He certainly didn't look nice. And what's Illum? Will I go there? Since I'm Force sensitive now."
Calista nodded with a soft smile as well. “I only vaguely remember them but they were great Jedi.” she agreed. “I don't know what the golden eyes mean… but what I heard about Anakin was that he either died or was killed during the massacre at the Temple.” she admitted thoughtfully, wondering how Hawkin’s vision could have fit in with that. “Illum was a planet where Jedi Padawans went to get kyber crystals to make their lightsabers. It was both part of their training and a rite of passage.”
Hawkin looked at Calista and shuddered.
"I hate to break it to you, but I don't think Anakin died at the temple. I think he was the cause of it. "
He shook his head.
"But on a lighter note, is going to Illum in my future?"
Calista closed her eyes at the thought but didn't argue. The fact that Anakin had bowed before the Emperor, a Sith, made it seem very likely that he had Fallen and would actually take part in killing the Jedi. “Why? Why would he…” she sighed. She understood that the Dark Side was persuasive and she remembered that Anakin spent almost as much time with Palpatine as he did with Master Kenobi…
“I don't know.” she admitted, glad for the change in topic. “There is a lot of training that a Padawan has to go through before they are ready to make a lightsaber. Not to mention that you would have to find someone who would be able to train you and those numbers are low.”
Hawkin looked around and looked back at Calista.
“Well, I believe I just so happen to be standing in front of one of those low numbers, so since you said I’m special, would you train me?”
Calista blinked in surprise at the question, unexpecting such a request… even though she supposed it was obvious. Truthfully, how she didn't think of this possibility first when she discovered Hawkin's gift was beyond her at the moment. "After the massacre and death of so many who felt the Force, I never thought I would be able to take on a Padawan." she admitted softly before nodding with a small smile. "But I would be honored to teach you."
he grabbed one of the spare helmets from the command station and fixed his helmet up scoffing if any of the red material was on the repaired bits "I wish a 501st base was nearby…would much rather walk their then repair with foxes armor that disgusting trooper….he was the reason fives died…" he put his helmet back on and walked back to the lobby
