Davina nodded eagerly, picking up her own mask from her bed and slipping it on before almost bouncing to the door. "Do you think they locked it?" She asked, adjusting her mask so it was comfortable and hoping that it wasn't locked and they could at least get down the hall without getting caught. It was thrilling to be breaking the rules, or at least pushing the limits of what the hospital would allow them to do.
Turning the handle, he pushed it open with a bright smile. "Doesn't look like it!" He laughed softly, peering down the hallway with an incredibly large grin. "No one's there, come on let's hurry before there is." Apollo whispered to her, stepping out of the room.
She did a small dance where she stood when the door opened and quickly followed him as he stepped out of the room. It was probably smart to leave the door open in case they needed to get back in quickly and so she left it barely open, just enough for a tiny sliver of light to slip through the gap. "Where should we go?" She asked, taking a risk and asking the question in a voice a little louder than a whisper. Wherever they went she was sure her excited grin would stay in it's place.
"Probably down the hall, I think there was a vending machine." He offered to her, taking her hand in his own. Pulling her along, he glanced back to study her excited demeanor with his own excited smile. "I know a few vending machine hacks, we won't even need money." He hummed, carefully glancing around the corner when they came to it.
Davina didn't even think about the gesture as he took her hand and pulled her down the hall. She peeked her head around the corner as well when he did, listening carefully for footsteps and looking for the vending machine Apollo had mentioned. Snacks did sound amazing at the moment, and also not having to pay for it, that also sounded pretty good too since she didn't have money at the moment.
Seeing the hallway was empty, he quickly pulled her along as if not to get caught. "This way," He directed her, glancing back to look at her. If she asked, he would say it was because he was making sure no one was following them. Though the real reason was because he wanted to see the excitement on her face.
She didn't even try to hide the visible excitement as he pulled her along again, finding herself focusing on their interlocked hands more and more as time drew on and she found their hands still together. That alone made her stomach flutter and she was once again thankful for the cover the mask provided over her flushed cheeks. She locked eyes whenever he looked back and it just made her blush grow brighter and barely peek out from under the mask.
Giving her a bright smile, he knew she couldn't see, he turned back so she couldn't see the flush on his own cheeks. Catching sight of the opening in the wall, he ducked into it, hoping this was where it was at. And he was right. "Found it!" He chirped, looking back to her with a light laugh. Just finding it was an accomplishment on its own, now to remember how to get something from it? That was ten times harder. "What are you thinking, what sounds good?"
"Ooo..I don't know.." She said with a smile, looking over all the options and hoping he didn't mind that she hadn't let go of his hand quite yet, "Any of this looks good…the candy especially though." Davina looked over at him and motioned to the machine with her free hand, "It's up to you, vending machine master."
"Oh dear, that's a lot of pressure." He laughed nervously, pulling away from her hand so he could work on it. Glancing at the key pad, he decided on a bag of M&Ms for them to split, because it seemed like the best choice. She liked chocolate, to his knowledge, so it made sense. Apollo looked back to her with a smile. "Do M&Ms sound good?" He asked softly, beginning to work on the key pad.
She nodded, watching him work for a minute before deciding to watch for anyone coming, "Yeah, M&Ms sounds amazing." He couldn't see the smile she had behind her mask but it was there as she glanced at him and then took up a spot against the wall, listening and occasionally peeking her head out to see if anyone was there. There were quite a few close calls, mostly nurses walking down nearby hallways or out of patient's rooms near where they were.
The sound of a clang in the bottom of the machine snapped him back, and he glanced over to watch them fall down into the bottom. A slight thump was heard, so he reached down pulling the package out. "Do you think we have time to wait for another?" He asked her softly, tucking the bag into his sleeve. If they got caught, the nurse would probably take it away. Better safe than sorry.
"It'll be close, but I think we have time," She whispered back, turning to look at him and then turning back to keep guard, "It sounds like we have a solid five minutes before the nurses come around for their shifts." Davina figured they could make it back to their room and get another package of M&Ms in that time, but it was going to be close even with no one in the way when they headed back.
Nodding, he quickly repeated the process from before. Clang…thump. When those sounds were heard, he bent down to pull the package out. "Alright, can we go?" Apollo asked softly, tucking the package in his sleeve. "Or is someone coming?" His voice was a whisper, as he came up behind Davina. He peered over his shoulder, resting a hand on her shoulder.
"Hold on," She murmured as she reached a hand back and gently grabbed onto his arm, her eyes locked on two chatty nurses that had rounded the corner and were close to being out of the way. "It's clear now." She turned her head back to look at him and a faint smile crossed her face, hidden by her mask, "Do you want to lead the way again?"
"I'll let you," Apollo smiled back, in turn to slip his hand back into hers. "You seem to have better eyes for things that could get us caught." He hummed to her softly. Truth was, he just wanted to hide his flushed face and neck. He could be looking back, to make sure no one was coming up to them. It seemed reasonable.
Davina's smile grew and she nodded, quickly but gently pulling him along as she headed back the way they came. She held onto his hand gently, though didn't let go as she slowed at the next corner and poked her head around to check if it was clear. "Is there anyone behind us?" She asked in a soft whisper, again spotting people walking down the hallway, though thankfully away from them not towards them.
Apollo glanced back, and shook his head in response. Though of course she wouldn't see it. "N-no. Not right now." He whispered weakly, glancing down at their hands with a soft smile. "Enjoy it while you can, she's totally not going to like you like that." He told himself, holding her hand a little bit tighter.
Again she nodded quietly, standing still for a few seconds and holding his hand just as tight as the people headed down the hallway and left it relatively silent again. She pulled him along with a small smile hidden behind her mask, happy to be holding his hand again and wishing she wouldn't have to let go when they reached their room. Quick enough though, and with no close calls, they reached the door to their room and Davina pushed it open, thankful that she hadn't closed it all the way and would have to worry about the noise it made. "Mission accomplished," She said happily, pulling down her mask again and waiting for the inevitable moment that he would pull his hand out from gripping hers.
He gently loosened his grip, but didn't pull his hand away. Apollo liked holding her hand, and was going to let her decide when they should let go. "We should save on for later, and split on now." He offered softly, pulling the packages from his sleeve. "Though we'll have to be careful where we hide them, so we don't get caught with them." Apollo snickered slightly, leading her over to his bed.
"Where should we hide the other pack?" She asked, looking around the room and taking a seat on the edge of his bed, leaving enough room for him to sit comfortably as well without having to be squished next to her. The first place that came to her mind was under one of their beds or in one of their bags, though she wasn't sure if they would be hidden enough in either of those places. Davina smiled though, not even trying to hide how excited she was to have candy, especially chocolate.
Glancing upwards, he let a smirk creep up on his lips before he let go of her hand. "I think I have a good idea, where to hide them." Apollo hummed, handing her one package of the candy. Once he had handed it to her, he pulled the bed out just slightly before hopping on top of it. Standing up, he stood on his toes, and pressed on the ceiling tile, watching it go up. "That's what I thought. We can hide anything up here, that's a reasonable size. Nobody will think to look in the roof."
She was actually impressed with the hiding spot, watching him curiously and also instinctively being on guard in case he lost his balance. "That's really smart." Davina said, messing with the package in her hands and tearing off a corner so they could pour the candies into their hands. She poured a few of the M&M's into her hand and smiled, taking her mask all the way off before tossing one of them up in the air and catching it in her mouth easily.
Apollo shrugged, hopping down from the bed with a light thud. "Not really, just unexpected is all. My school had these tiles up in the gym, and they always got knocked loose, sometimes they even broke and fell out." He laughed lightly, holding his hand out for a couple of the sweet chocolate candies. "I may or may not have been the kid that always knocked them out. Never on purpose, of course."
She laughed happily and poured the candies into his hand, smiling and looking over at him, "Still smart in my books, I don't think I would've even thought of that as a hiding place." Davina glanced up at the hiding space in the ceiling and tossed another M&M in the air, catching it again and seeming very proud that she had caught two in a row. "This was definitely worth sneaking out." She said, very much enjoying the candy.
